Murphy Grade: 11 Room: 2052 Aims of the course - to develop the ability to communicate accurately and effectively in speech and in writing with a range of context to develop the ability to understand and respond to the language demands of transactional and social contacts to provide students with a sound linguistic base for further study, work and leisure to offer insights into the culture of the countries where the language is spoken to provide the opportunity for enjoyment, creativity and intellectual stimulation The IBS/H language exam consists of three grades: 30% oral proficiency, 30% written proficiency and 40% reading proficiency. The oral grade is given by the teacher based on the student’s progress during the whole course. The written and reading proficiency grades are obtained via one exam given in May at the end of the second year of the course and graded externally. Paper II requires an essay of at least 300 words for SL and 400 for HL. This is expected in portfolios and other essays as well.
