D. Johnson H. Nordquist 12/11/12 5th Hour Fantastic Freshwater Frenzy! Using the freshwater ecosystems: harmful or helpful? That is the question. Some want to use these ecosystems to end the “Water War” and other problems. Others want to preserve these ecosystems to protect wildlife and other things! This paper will state what scientists think from both sides of freshwater use. These points are why you should protect the freshwater, but also why we should use freshwater. Everybody has opinions, but we personally think that we should use it! Using freshwater ecosystems would give people an endless system of drinkable water. Doesn’t that sound wonderful? Today there are about 43 countries, mostly in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, fighting for freshwater in a war called the “Water War”. Using freshwater would help end the war and end get rid of nerves for people worried about water scarcity. But, recreational uses such as boating, and water sports would be limited because there would be less water. On the flip side, we have protecting freshwater. Protecting freshwater would have its perks, like protecting the organisms living in the ecosystem of The Great Lakes. It’d protect marine life from pollution in the water, because if the area was preserved, there would be no factories, cars, or other things to cause pollution. In certain allowed places, protecting freshwater would open up freshwater for recreational use such as boating and fishing. Now, we have to decide a conclusion. Use freshwater or protect? Well, we should use D. Johnson H. Nordquist 12/11/12 5th Hour freshwater. This is because, for one thing, it would end the “Water War”, hopefully once and for all! Also, no more worries about water scarcity for the 43 countries mostly in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Should we use the freshwater in freshwater ecosystems? The answer is yes!
