BIOGRAPHY OF ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Nick Wimbush - Chair
Nick holds qualifications in Environmental Science, Public Policy and Law. He has
over 20 years experience in a variety of State and Local Government roles in Western
Australia and Victoria including managing environmental impact assessment of
major road projects with the West Australian Environment Protection Authority and
advising the Victorian Government in a senior role on coastal planning and
development.
He also has extensive experience in the private sector in Western Australia,
Indonesia and Victoria both with consulting firms and after founding and running
his own environmental consultancy from 2002-2006 specialising in integrated coastal
zone management. Since 2006 he has been a full time Senior Panel Member with
Planning Panels Victoria responsible for chairing environment effects inquiries,
panels and advisory committees. Nick was a sessional lecturer at postgraduate level
in natural resource management at RMIT University in Melbourne from 2002-2006
and has lectured in planning and environmental law at Monash University,
Melbourne University and RMIT University. He is a member of the Victorian
Planning and Environmental Law Association, the Environment Institute of
Australia and New Zealand and the National Environmental Law Association.
Ian Coles
Ian Coles works as a professional company director and consultant.
His Board roles include: Chairman of Sustainable Packaging Alliance Pty Limited
and SPA Pty Ltd, Director of the Central Highlands Regional Water Corporation,
and Deputy Chair of the Barwon Regional Waste Management Group. He was
formally a Board member of Product Stewardship Australia Ltd; Chairman of Butt
Free Australia, Chairman Brian Robinson Foundation, and Director and Chairman of
Close the Loop Limited. In addition he is a Member of the EPA Victoria Risk and
Audit Committee.
He has over thirty-five years experience as a senior manager in the public and
private sectors, delivering and managing practical environmental programs and
projects. He was CEO of EcoRecycle Victoria for nine years, and previously held
senior management positions with EPA Victoria, and as a manager and Director of
multinational environmental management consulting firms.
Gaye McKenzie
Gaye has a Bachelor of Town and Regional Planning (Melbourne University) and
has been a Sessional Member of Planning Panels Victoria since 1987. In that time she
has sat on numerous Panels and Advisory Committees appointed to consider a wide
range of matters, including structure plans and heritage, rural, residential,
commercial and industrial policies and re-zonings.
Gaye now conducts a sole planning practice after spending 20 years as a Project
Director in a town planning consultancy and 13 years in local government. She has
also been a member of consultancy firms involved in projects in Indonesia and East
Malaysia.
Gaye is a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and Member of the Victorian
Planning and Environmental Law Association. She is a former member of the
Building Appeals Board and Heritage Council.
Sue Porter
Sue Porter is a Town Planner with over 30 years experience in a wide range of
planning matters at the Local and State Government level, as well as in the private
sector. Sue has a wide range of experience in both strategic and statutory planning
in the urban, urban fringe and rural areas. Sue has been a Sessional Member of
Planning Panels Victoria for four years.
Sue has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Urban Studies and Geography, a Post
Graduate Diploma in Urban and regional Planning and Master of Arts in Town
Planning from Victoria University.
