8th ANNUAL 2013 SPRING/SUMMER/FALL Internship
Training ship and Visiting Fellowship programs in: Evidence-Based Applied Sport Psychology
We offer: One to four month programs running from May until October. This is an intensive and
extensive training program centering on the ABSP validated evidence-based applied sport
psychology protocol.
Our program is demanding and rigorous. Undergraduates, graduates, graduate students and
professional practitioners will be exposed to and trained in advanced practice and research
methodologies and APPLIED testing and intervention procedures, especially in the context of
ecological on-the-playing field and real competition settings. Our program has pioneered
advanced methods in intervention efficiency and efficacy testing (see Carlstedt, 2012)* an
aspect of the mental training process that has been universally neglected. Students will also be
trained in evidence-based applied psychophysiology and biofeedback, key procedures in the
athlete assessment, intervention and efficacy testing process (*Evidence-based applied sport
psychology: A practitioner's manual; Springer Publishing).
We have an on-going extant longitudinal research program that continues to extend, amend and
replicate investigations and findings that go back to 2006 when our summer program first
started. In the meantime we have amassed one of the largest databases of athlete real-time
neuropsycho physiological functioning during real/official competition in existence.
Our student research and applied experience is significant and important. Selected individuals
will be exposed to cutting-edge research and evidence-based approaches to athlete
assessment and intervention under the direction and supervision of Dr. Roland A. Carlstedt, a
licensed clinical psychologist, with board certification in sport psychology and biofeedback who
serves as the head mentor in the ABSP certification program. This is an excellent opportunity to
4
gain hands-on assessment, intervention and research experience in settings that have a high
degree of ecological validity.
Many of our students received academic credit for our program at their home institutions
including through senior honors theses. Hours in our program have be accrued toward clinical
supervision as well and count toward ABSP certification.
Venue: New York City (activities throughout greater New York City area) and Honolulu.
Dates: Starting in May and running through September (Summer long positions are available).
One-Month minimum participation required (latest start time: August; Honolulu session July 23rd
to August 9). Custom programs can also be arranged.
Hours per week- minimum of 30-40 hours of applied sport psychology activities and research
per week.
