The
Beginning…
Both these classes will
be working to complete
the final reading and
analysis of the great
drama THE CRUCIBLE.
For the most part, students
have indicated a deeper
understanding of this work
than first thought and I am
pleased to see that.
We will also discuss the
convention of drama that
appear in this very
teachable selection,
including, but not limited
to the types of irony, stage
directions, character
analysis, and more…
In addition, I will use
tomorrow to summarize
and discuss the review
work for the mid-term
which will be the only
massive testing during the
course of this class.
Today will be a very
active class as students
prep for the Mid-term and
receive their novel.
Today, I will have them to
concentrate on a review of
all the vocabulary work to
date. This will include the
regular programmed
vocabulary and the
vocabulary from the literature which will give them
approximately two
hundred words to review.
Having tested well during
the term of the course, this
should go well for them.
Week Beginning: Oct. 27-Oct. 31, 2014
Tuesday/10-28
Classroom management
and expectations always
emphasized…
Vocabulary Power Plus
for the New SAT will not
have its EIGHTH unit of
testing on today. The
students have, however,
already prepared this work
and will be tested on it
when the new term begins
next Wednesday.
Today will find our
completing the drama (in
time for mid-term testing)
THE CRUCIBLE and
reminding the students to
prepare daily for the midterms. The review information is attached to these
plans and were given to
the students last week. So
the preparation has been
ongoing.
Students are aware that
the final testing on the
drama is included in the
mid-term.
Today’s concentration
will be a review of all the
literary selections we have
covered to date.
In addition, I will hand
out the next great work:
Hawthorne’s THE
SCARLET LETTER for
which students will
receive a study guide for
the novel and begin to
mull over the types of
creative projects they
would want for this novel,
even perhaps utilizing the
Salem, Mass events and
integrating the
similarities…
Wednesday/10-29
Mid-term Exam for this
class: See attached review to
delineate what is being
covered. It may take this
class and 4th period
additional class time to
complete this work, but I
believe the advanced will be
able to complete it in one
period. The task of reading
this information will wear on
many of these students, but
the necessity is quite
implicit. They will have to
deal with analyzing massive
amount of information and
putting it back together as
application of their knowledge during the course of
the term. Higher order
thinking and critically
analyzing rank where they
should be going…
The 4th block of advanced
students should be able to
complete this work; the
exception will be the five
cross-country students
leaving for a competition in
the district. They will have
to complete this test on
tomorrow…
The students should also
look ahead to the
introduction to the Romantic
Period in American
literature; these authors are
among the foremost in
establishing the authenticity
of our indigenous body of
literature…

In addition, they will

The 9th spelling quiz will
occur during the first part
of each period. Students
will also be reminded of
the already prepared

They should review and

We shall return to our

discussion of chapter 1.
I shall also hand our vocabulary for this novel and
prepare to test the students
in two parts…
We shall establish the
order that we will study
the Romantic writers. We
shall begin with the Fireside poets and I will have
the students to select
group depiction of these
works for display and
instructional purposes…
The Adv. students will
discuss the vocabulary and

THE SCARLET LETTER.
I will also steer them toward

a format that will lend itself
to creative individualism of

 Writing skills covered during the overall period. The Internet portion of the

apostrophes, hyphens, dashes, and parentheses. I know you know this
information, but go over it so that you will do well.
 The Vocabulary Workshop portion of the test will cover units
1-7. Be sure to know all of the definitions and be prepared to have similar
constructions, like synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks, select the correct
word choice, etc.

 Essay Development—writing skills should be well-applied in this selection
which may come from an application of any literary piece.
