The Beginning…
Today will be a very
active class as students
prep for the Mid-term,
review for the vocabulary
test on tomorrow, and
discuss the evolving
literary endeavors:
because students SOL
tested last week, I
attempted to ease their
academic burdens, but
today, we will return to
our focus of necessary
preparation as we
→
begin the review for the
mid-term exams. See the
attached review focus at
the end of the plans.
These students have just
begun the drama, The
Crucible, but I have so
prepared them with background information that
they are very receptive as
the near completion of Act
I revealed last week.
The Advanced students
will finalized their assignments for presentation of
the chapters of their first
novel: THE SCARLET
LETTER which will be
quite applicative since
they have just completed a
wave of Puritan literature.
They will be reminded of
the test on THE CRUCIBLE at the beginning of
the new term—too much
material on the mid-term.
They will also receive
their mid-term review
sheet to ensure their prep
for Wednesday’s exam…
Week Beginning: Oct. 28-Nov. 1, 2013
Tuesday/10-29
Classroom management
and expectations always
emphasized…
Wednesday/10-30
LARGER CLASSES, but
essays are being analyzed
and writing practice
increased…
Vocabulary Power Plus
for the New SAT will
have its EIGHTH unit of
testing on today. The
students were instructed to
be prepared to return to
the regular vocabulary
testing schedule after SOL
testing and should be
prepared because during
the interim of last week,
they received their
background work and
prepared their flash →
cards for last Friday.
Upon completion of the
test today which will not
be extensive, they shall
prepare the background
for unit #9 which will be
the first grade for the new
term, beginning next
Wednesday.
I shall also encourage
them to prepare well for
midterm testing as they →
have heard this preparatory information throughout the term.
Students will be reminded in this class to
also review the drama
material as they prepare to
test very early in the new
term to take their test on
this curricular selection.
They will also be encouraged to begin interacting
with persons have contiguous chapters of the
novel to evolve the best
design for presentation.
Projects will be displayed
in the library…
Period one is scheduled to
have its mid-term exam.
Please see the attached
descriptor at the end of these
lesson plans…→
The 2nd Block will work to
complete all vocabulary preparation as they ready themselves for tomorrow’s
midterm.
In addition, they will be introduce to their next literary
endeavor after they complete
the drama.
They should focus very
hard on studying well for this
midterm.
The advanced class will be
taking their midterm today
and as delineated in period
one, the requirements will
test their applicative skills of
all the work we have done to
date. See the attachment.

Students may not have been
able to complete the essay
portion of the exam on
yesterday; if that is the case, I
will permit them to do so in
either one of the classes that
were tested yesterday.
Because this will be a
shorter period, I will also
ensure that they have their
vocabulary flash ready for
tomorrow and their spelling
preparation ready for the
final quiz of this term--#9.
I will encourage them to also
read when they get a chance
their drama to be ready…
The students will take the
ninth spelling quiz of the
term which will end their
vocab and spelling work
for the first nine weeks.
This class will take their
mid-term exam today, the
expectations already
delineated in the attachment
to the plans. I wish them the
best as I have prepared to and
they will have to execute…
the test that will occur on
Wednesday of next week
because Tuesday, their
usual testing day, is a
teacher workday.
They will also be encouraged to rest during the
weekend and the brief
hiatus to rev themselves
for the new term…
Will ensure that all students
are on the same page with the
closing of the drama and the
preparation for the novel
display. A third of these
students had National Honor
Society Induction last week
and did not get a chance to
complete the work the remainder of the class did.
Will also remind them of
spelling and vocab prep…
The students will perform the same work as
above and then collaborate
to determine the types of
creative projects they
would want for The
Scarlet Letter, even
perhaps utilizing the
Salem, Mass events of the
witch trials and integrating
the similarities…
The vocabulary flash
cards are also due today
on the ninth unit of work.
Students are also
encouraged to practice
stronger writing skills by
applying the vocabulary
that they are learning.
Students will be
reminded that they should
begin preparation for the

MID-TERM EXAM
Q 1 FALL 2013
Study for the Mid-term will consist of the following:
 Writing skills covered during the overall period. The Internet portion of the
test will consist of 30 questions similar to the Writing SOL. Review writing
chapters and the mechanics of capitalization, commas, semi-colons, colons,
apostrophes, hyphens, dashes, and parentheses. I know you know this
information, but go over it so that you will do well.
 The Vocabulary Workshop portion of the test will cover units
1-7. Be sure to know all of the definitions and be prepared to have similar
constructions, like synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks, select the correct
word choice, etc.
 The Literary Selections from the text will review your knowledge of the
following pieces:
1. The Native American selections
a. “The World on Turtle’s Back”
b. “Coyote and Buffalo”
c. “The Way to Rainy Mountain”
2. “The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano” (Equiano)
3. “The History of Virginia” (Smith)
4. “Of Plymouth Plantation” (Bradford)
5. “To My Dear and Loving Husband” (Bradstreet)
6. “Upon the Burning of our House” (Bradstreet)
7. “Huswifery”
8. “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” (Edwards)
[Be sure to study the vocabulary from these selections because I will include these
denoted words also.}
 Essay Development—writing skills should be well-applied in this selection
which may come from an application of any literary piece.
