課程概述
課程目標
The purpose of this one-year course is to help you read and enjoy literary works
from various perspectives. Most of the texts will be selected from The Norton
Introduction to Literature, shorter 8th edition, an anthology designed for you to
read Anglo-American literary works and then analyze them in terms of elements
of literature: plot, narration and point of view, character, setting, symbol, theme,
and so on. This semester we will focus on one of the three most commonly
agreed-on genres in the literature of the English language: Fiction. You will learn
to analyze short fictions and then synthesize them into organic works.

You are required to turn in one response paper, that is, a term paper for your final
on one of the given essay questions after the texts are thoroughly discussed.
Grades are hence calculated according to group assignments (30%), one in-class
mid-term exam (30%), and one term paper (40%).
