COURSE OBJECTIVE
This is an introductory-level undergraduate corporate finance course with its primary focus on the theory of finance and its application to the corporate financial management.
The course is designed to familiarize students with existing and ever-changing world of modern finance. Upon completion of this course, the students will not only have good understanding of basic finance theories and analytical skills but also have a perspective to judge both the theoretical and practical significance of advances in the field of finance.
PREREQUISITES
Accounting 2133
TEXT
Foundations of Finance, Keown, Scott, and Petty, 5th Edition, Prentice Hall.
Reading “Wall Street Journal” is strongly recommended. Some articles and security price quotations will be used for class projects.
A financial calculator capable of calculating YTM or IRR (TI BAII PLUS or HP
Business Analyst will be a good choice.)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1.
There will be three mid-term exams and a common final. All the exams are closed book. Students are allowed to bring a formula sheet prepared individually.
For the uniform final exam, a department-prepared formula sheet will be provided.
2.
Any students who miss a mid-term exam must have a well-documented valid excuse to receive a make-up exam.
3.
Students are required to work on two term projects, and turn them in by due dates.
Detailed instructions on the projects will be given in regular class hours.
4.
Regular attendance is mandatory for this class. I will take roll in every session. If you have legitimate reasons to miss class, you have to submit a written notice to instructor in advance.
5.
On the first day of class, students are required to sign a sheet of paper stating that they have had the prerequisite.
