RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the overall supervision of the Military Adviser, the Chief of Current Military Operations Service
is responsible for monitoring the activities of the military component of current peacekeeping
operations, and ensuring coordination between the Military Division at headquarters, and the military
components in the field; is responsible for ensuring that timely and appropriate support is provided to
the Heads of Military Components in the field, and that the Department of peacekeeping operations and
Troop-Contributing Countries are Kept abreast of developments in the military component of
peacekeeping missions. The incumbent oversees the activities of the peacekeeping Affairs Officers,
who are each responsible for monitoring the military component of one or more peacekeeping
operations; conducts visits to peacekeeping missions when requested by the Military Adviser for factfinding, technical assessment and reconnaissance purposes; provides advise on the military aspects of
current operations; and manages the Current Military Operations Service.
COMPETENCIES:
Professionalism: possess expertise in the area of appointment, ability to evaluate international political
situations; demonstrated ability to complete in-depth studies and to formulate conclusions; conceptual
and analytical skills leading to formulation of policy recommendation; knowledge of the United
Nations system, particularly its role in peace operations' a thorough knowledge of mandates, policies
and guidelines related to peace operation; expertise in the planning and management of complex
peacekeeping operations and an in-depth understanding of their operations, political and procedural
aspects; ability to thoroughly analyze and evaluate critical matters pertaining to a broad spectrum of

backgrounds; excellent written and oral communications skills; ability to prepare substantive proposals

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduate of a National Command and Staff College or National War/Defense College is
essential. A first level university degree is desirable.
Work Experience: The candidate must be active service military officer in the rank of army, full
colonel or equivalent in other Service, with a minimum of ten (10) years service, with at least two years
service at the current rank. The candidate must have command experience at the battalion/regimental or
equivalent level; staff experience at the Ministry of Defense level or equivalent; deployment on at least
one recent United Nations peacekeeping operation in essential. Staff experience in an international
headquarters is desirable.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this
post, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language,
preferably French, is desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Planning Officer will work in the Military Planning Service, Military Division, and Department of
Peacekeeping Operations. The Planning Officer reports to the Chief of the Military Planning Service,
or in some ceded, through a Team Leader to the Chief of the Military Planning Service. The incumbent
will be required to develop and prepare force requirements, concepts of operation and plans for new
mission. He\she will also be required to plan for extended or large-scale force changes to, and\or
termination of, on-going mission. The incumbent will, as part of these duties be required to undertake
all of the research and analysis required to support these tasks. He\she is also required to research and
prepare papers\reports to assist in the force generation efforts of United Nations peacekeeping doctrine
needed to support such plans. He\she provides expert military advice on operational matters; prepares
and takes part in integrated initial pre-deployment and technical survey mission; develops the
operational concepts and operational plans for new or extended missions in liaison with the other
Services; contributes to the development of support plans for missions; prepares Mission specific
Guidelines, Force Commander Directives and provides inputs to Status of Mission Agreements
(SOMA). Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) as required, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)
with Troop Contributing Countries and Guidelines to Troop. Contributing Countries. He\she oversees
the detailed organization and equipment for military units and headquarters required for mission;
evaluates the capability of countries’ military units offered for missions and may be required to
participate in Contribution Agreement negotiations. He\she will provide rapid, short duration, military
advice services to Special Representatives of the Secretary-General in current mission areas when
required; participate in workshops, seminars and symposiums on peacekeeping operations in order to
further advance the understanding of the UN’s capabilities and limitation, and other duties as required.
He\she should be prepared, sometimes at short notice, to undertake these duties not only at the UN
Headquarters, but also in field mission or potential mission areas.
COMPETENCIES:
Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, including in a
formal setting to senior staff of the UN and\or other organizations. Awareness and ability to interact

QUALIFICATIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Specialist support Service (SSS) Logistics Support
Division (LSD), Department of peacekeeping operations (DPKO), the Chief, Medical support Section,
manages the Medical Support Section and performs the following duties: provides policy guidance on
operational medical issues, as well as the development, management and implementation of overall
strategies and intra and inter-divisional/departmental policies and procedures. Plans, establishes and
monitors medical support for UN field missions, incorporating UN owned, Member State-contributed
and commercial medical capacities. Advises DPKO, peacekeeping mission staff, Member States and
legislative bodies of the Organization on medical operational issues pertinent to UN field mission, as
well as contingent issues, medical standards, Memoranda of Understanding and Letters of Assist.
Oversees the Organization's medical logistics support to field mission, including management of
systems – wide service contracts. Provides substantive input preparation of position papers and reports
for presentation to inter-governmental bodies. Manages the day-to-day operations and outputs of the
Section in line with Departmental strategies and objective, including administrative, budgetary and
human resource functions. Represents the Division/Department at inter-agency, international or
regional meeting on medical operational issues.
COMPETENCIES:
Professionalism – Expert knowledge of general and military-specific medical support requirements
including health policies and procedures; ability to execute medical support for field missions; ability
to develop medical training policies, standards and programs; ability to review and edit the work of

QUALFICATIONS:
Education:
Advanced medical degree (Masters or equivalent) in Medicine, health sciences or related filed with
additional training/courses in social sciences, health or related field.
Work Experience:
A minimum of 10 years progressively experience in the medical filed, with at least 5 years experience
in a management capacity. Prior experience in planning or coordinating medical support for an
international or multi-national peacekeeping or military operation at the headquarters level is required.
Experience in strategic planning; program management; budgetary planning; medical logistics; and
medical policy development is highly desirable. Background in international or public health, and/or
health administration is desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post
advertised, fluency in oral and written English is essential; knowledge of second UN language
desirable.
Other Desirable Skills:
Good computer skills and knowledge of health information is desirable. Strong background in

RESPONSABILITIES:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Integrated Training Service, (ITS), Change Management,
Office of the Under-Secretary-General, Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the incumbent is
responsible to: plan, coordinate, conduct, evaluate and report on DPKO UN Police, military and
civilian training activities including workshops, courses, and seminars conducted for UN Peacekeeping
Operations and for Members States both in Mission and UN Members States, and national, regional
and international Peacekeeping training institutions; plan, coordinate and supervise the execution and
evaluation of United Nations DPKO support and participation in multinational Peacekeeping exercise;
provide training assistance, support and guidance to Integrated Mission Training Centers and Police
Training Cells in UN Peacekeeping Operations both Remotely and in the field; develop DPKO
Peacekeeping training policy and staff papers on training issues for the Police Division; develop,
maintain and promulgate UN DPKO standardized training for UN peacekeeping Operations; act as
Project Manager for ITS development projects; manage ITS military Police peacekeeping training
databases and websites and promulgate standardized UN peacekeeping training publication; monitor
and report expenditure of ITS training and publication Budget; deploy to UN PKO and to UN Members
States for UN peacekeeping training and evaluation activities.

(7) years of professional experience in a national police service with a rank of Superintendent or other
service equivalent rank is essential. Police training experience is also a requirement. Operational
experience as a member of a least one UN or other peacekeeping/peace enforcement/peace support
mission is essential, preferably as a training officer. The incumbent must have national service
experience at a middle management level in operations and training, or have served in his/her national
or regional peacekeeping training centers, preferably in a training center for Police. Experience in an

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Police adviser, Director of the police Division of the Department of
peacekeeping Operations, the Chief of Mission Management and Support Service is responsible to
provide oversight, guidance and support to the stuff of the section and to the senior leadership of police
operations on a wide range of strategic policing activities, including those related to mandate
implementation, local police institutional development and capacity enhancement, and operational and
administrative issues related to police operations. The incumbent acts as the communication link
between the Office of the police Adviser and the Service and provides advice to the police Adviser on
important issues. S/he will actively participate in and provide direct oversight in preparing plans to
establish and support new and existing operations, assists in developing profiles based on the identified
needs of police components and provide oversight during the selection and recruitment of individual
police officers and formed police units. The incumbent will supervise the timely production of police
specific documents and will conduct visits to the police components operations of peacekeeping
operations for fact-finding and technical assessment missions. The Chief supervise the activities of the
mission management and support officers in regards to the maintenance of continuous liaison with
permanent Missions of police contributing countries, including those issues related to personnel. S/he
will ensure that incoming and outgoing senior police field staff receives appropriate in and out
briefings and are provided with follow-up support as required. The incumbent provides advice to the
senior staff of the police Division, the Office of Operations and the Office of Mission Support on the
police aspects of peacekeeping operations. S/he will conduct representational activities at workshops
and seminars and will develop partnerships within the UN system, research institutes, Member States
and Regional Organizations. The incumbent is responsible to supervise and manage staff of the Service
and is therefore required to manage performance through use of the UN performance appraisals system
in accordance with establish criteria. The Chief will be designated OIC of the police Division in the
absence of the Police Adviser, and as such, performs the functions and tasks of the police Adviser.

policing experience at the operational planning and administrative levels may be accepted in lieu of the
advanced degree. Graduation from national police academy is required.
Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of national police service at senior administrative and
strategic operational levels. UN policing experience in a peacekeeping operation dealing with
administrative and operational issues related to the day to day functioning of the police component
required.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. For the

Other Desirable Skills:
An in depth knowledge and understanding of police institutional development, and police capacity

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in police sciences, law
enforcement, and law, or a related field. A first level university degree with a combination of relevant
academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced. Graduation from a
national police academy is also required.
Work Experience: A minimum of seven years of professional experience in a-national police service
with a rank of Superintendent or other service equivalent rank is essential. Experience in police
planning and an ability to develop operational plans and concepts of operations, as well as an ability to
engage in discussions at the operational and strategic levels is required. Peacekeeping or other
international experience is desirable.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the
post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is essential; knowledge of second UN language
desirable.
Other Desirable skills:
Knowledge and understanding for police institutional development, and police capacity enhancement is
required. The incumbent is also required to understand the various strategic policy issues facing police
components of peace keeping operations.
