Library Team Meeting
Wednesday, February 20, 2013 9:00 a.m.
Present: McCallister, Bren, Knight, Elsen, Fragola, Kimball (recorder)
Karen Weston was a guest speaker today. She gave a demonstration of CONTENTdm. Karen
discussed the pros and cons of CONTENTdm and some other software products. Myrna had
sent emails to CUWL directors to see if any of them had interest in CONTENTdm.
Carol had drafted a paper on the continuous book sale process, now that we no longer have an
annual book sale. Team members discussed this and approved the process as outlined.
Effective this past Monday, Patty has taken over the duties of the Systems Librarian. She is also
the interim head of Circulation.
Myrna attended the SBDC meeting yesterday. Items discussed include:
 The Governor will speak tonight about the state budget.
 The Chancellor spoke about the HR systems problem, overpayment of retirement
benefits, and insurance mistakes, some of which may not be able to be reclaimed.
 The state has a new program called the ‘Open Book Checkbook’. Anyone may access
this website and see how much money is being spent by state officials. February 25 is the
launch date.
 There was discussion on the campus strategic goals.
 Sara Kuhl talked about the branding issues on campus. She will be sending out a survey
within the next few days. She announced a conference on branding that will be held at
UW-Oshkosh.
 Greg Cook reports that the Leap workshops have been growing rapidly.
 Drumlin will open the week before spring break.
Round Robin:
Anne:
 Will submit a surplus order within the next few days. Another order will be submitted in
the near future.
Sharon:
 Technical Services has gotten as far as they can on the compact shelving withdrawal
project until the items in the P’s are reviewed. Once that is done they will continue
withdrawing the materials.
Patty:
 Mac laptops are still not working properly, so once again they were sent back to iCIT.
 The Zero Clients (little white computers) are still here. There were scheduled to be
removed last week.
 This afternoon the collabs will be out of commission. The new Mac Minis will be
installed.

This morning is the first lab manager’s meetings that Patty will attend.
Started to move furniture and has set aside some for surplus.
Has finished the phone interviews for the Circ/PR position. There is one name from the
permissive transfer list for the Reserves position. Additional names from the state list
will be provided next week.
Dell computers will no longer be purchased for campus users. HP computers will be
used instead. iCIT feels that HP is better and cheaper.
Voyager information in Primo will be reloaded today.
Patty and Kim will participate in a panel discussion in Residence Life on student
employment. This will take place on Tuesday, February 26, at 7:30 pm.
Carol:
 Overheard a student who was running for student government discussing pushing the
Library to be open late on Fridays and Saturdays.
 Distributed copies of the ALS survey. It can also be found on the H-drive.
 $25,500 has been deposited into the Distance Ed account.
 Has had a few problems with vendors and their slow responses.
 The rep from the book scanner company contacts Carol on a regular basis. A meeting
will be held next week with Carol, Patty, Myrna, and Elena Pokot to discuss our trial of
the book scanner.
Barb:
 Students from Big Foot High School will be in the Library on Monday, February 25, for a
couple of hours in the morning. They are not meeting with a librarian.
 Marshall High School may be sending a group of 13 students in AP English here next
Friday if the teacher can arrange for a bus.
 Ellen Latorraca is offering EndNote Web workshops again, and Diana Shull will be
offering Zotero workshops as well. Some of these take place in the collaboratories.
 Martha has finished giving the iSkills test and is now working on the results.
 A staff computer suddenly demanded a proxy login recently, which shouldn’t happen on
campus. We have a few staff whose computers are assigned a static IP that emulates
being off campus, and apparently there are some IP addresses set up this way that are not
assigned to a particular computer, so they are in the ‘pool’ of IP addresses to which
computers are randomly assigned when they are logged in. If it happens again, let Patty
Fragola know.
 The Library will once again be participating in Planet Purple this summer.
 The shredder is not working. The company has requested that the electrical supply be
checked to determine whether that might be the problem.
Adjourned 10:30.
