Library Team Meeting Wednesday, September 24, 2014 9:00 a.m. Present: McCallister, Bren, Knight, Fragola, Johnson, Elsen, Kimball (recorder) When the accordion door was installed in The Purple Room, a plaque hanging on the wall had to be removed. The plaque reads: Dwight Warner Memorial Room. Barb was recruited to find information regarding Dwight. The plaque will be hung in the first floor library classroom. [Dwight Warner was a Regent from 1944-1947, born in Whitewater] The Android app being considered for development for the library for finding available group study rooms might also be available in the iOS platform. Patty will be involved with this, as well as Michael. The User Experience Virtual Conference met last week Friday. It was suggested that libraries get together with other libraries to look at each other with fresh eyes and learn how your library appeals to outsiders. Becky is coordinating this with her counterparts at other UW libraries. Hermie Snorek from the Provost’s office could be out for several months due to her car accident. The annual fire alarm testing will be held on October 6. The police department will not give us a specific time of our drill. However, we can let them know what time will not work for us. Barb is looking at the Library Instruction Lab schedule and is intending to request for the drill to occur between classes. Myrna reports that most of our supply budget for this year has been used for the circulation furniture and more red tables for the First Floor Classroom. The Learn Center presentation ‘Flipping Out for Information Literacy’ was held yesterday. It was a very well received session. Kudos to Martha, Diana, Ellen, and Amanda for doing such a good job! Richard Van Schoonhoven emailed a list of staff and keys for Myrna to double check. Team members will examine the list and look for any loose ends or questions they need to ask. Our DVD collection is growing very large. Myrna wonders if it is time to make a sub-division, such as TV series and movies being shelved separately. More information is needed before a decision will be made. Carol will get numbers of each category. Round Robin: Michael: Had an issue with the CSO (who unlock the library door on the weekend) this past weekend. They never showed up. Working with the Student Honor Society setting up a cash donation box in the Library to help fund the local women’s shelter. Someone deposited used VHS tapes into the night drop box. This is the second time this has happened. Carol: Proposes to cancel the Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune on the newspaper Kindle and have the 3 Kindles (all except the Patron Request Kindle) cataloged with all the same book titles on them. Patty will look into repurposing the old iPads into readers. Reference Universe database has changed the links from Voyager to Primo. Tony Gulig thanked Carol for doing the History self-study report. Carol is now working on the Sociology self-study report. Attended the UCC meeting on Friday. The Intent to Plan a Masters of Social Work was approved by the Regents. Sharon: Recently emailed all campus departments the first call for the Scholarship and Creative Achievement Event which will be held on November 25. Mentions that a recurring SFX problem appears. Barb: Reports that a faculty member requested links to EndNote and Zotero appear on the homepage. Diana has identified a secure cabinet for L1105 Library Classroom that would cost about $800. Scholarship and Creative Achievement bibliographies will be online only. Today at 7:00 p.m. is the reception for the Whitewater Historical Society’s temporary exhibit on women's work (Special Collections lent some materials). Nikki Mandell, guest curator for the exhibit and History Dept. faculty will be speaking. The annual Benefits Fair will be held October 9. The Library will once again be staffing a table. Barb is working 9-1 on Friday. Patty: Will be out of the office this Friday attending a meeting in Madison, but will be available by email. Is reviewing sample Alma training. The settings have been changed on the public computers to delete unused “User Profiles” from computers every 2 days. All public computers will also be automatically shut down at 2:30 a.m. every night. Printer issue doesn’t seem to have been solved. Working with iCIT purchasing to get the iPad syncing storage cabinet fixed. Has asked for input on using the re-direct developed by UW-Oshkosh for our Voyager links. Anne: Surplus items are being collected outside of Myrna's office. Another surplus run will submitted soon. Announces that she will be using plenty vacation time in October, usually out on Thursdays. Adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
