Library Team Meeting Wednesday, December 3, 2014 9:00 a.m. Present: McCallister, Bren, Knight, Elsen, Fragola, Johnson, Kimball (recorder) This week, there was one suggestion in the suggestion box. It was a somewhat snarky comment about the stapler that is set out at the circulation desk area for student use. The writer of the suggestion was rather put out that the stapler was not working correctly and it was annoying this person. Michael will address this comment. At the last AAS meeting, Myrna announced that the Library will be implementing the new Alma system after the first of the year. Because of the changeover, there will be certain times that the Library staff will not be able to work as normal. These times include: Technical Services: unable to work as normal January 21 to February 4. (Sharon will create a plan on what her staff will do when they can’t work due to the transition to Alma). Circulation: unable to work as normal February 4 to February 9. Universal Borrowing will not be able to be accessed from January 8 to February. Patty will get a write up of this to Myrna to distribute to AA staff. The ‘lactation room’ will eventually become an office for the new Automation person. A new room will be needed soon, and we will revert to the originally proposed room in Technical Services. Team discussed the possibility of having a student in charge on Saturdays. A Circulation staff member would be ‘on call’. Myrna and Michael will continue to discuss this. Office Sacco should be here either January 15 or 22 to talk with library staff about dealing with a dangerous situation, particularly a shooter situation. The popcorn cart and candy cart schedule has been created. Myrna received an email from Greg Cook regarding problems with the wireless connectivity in the Library. iCIT would like to bring in a consultant to determine if the access points should be moved or if any need to be added. iCIT feels that the microwave located on the main floor by the café and the wireless gaming system controllers may be part of the problem. More information will be forthcoming in the future. The Library will proceed with hiring an LTE for Circulation (half time) and Technical Services (full time). Myrna reports that a Library staff member has lost their key. Richard Van Schoonhoven will determine the next step in issuing a new key. Dave Holly has resigned from UW-Whitewater for a position in Madison. Our custodial staff will now report to Dave Soliz. Round Robin: Sharon: Is finishing up the Scholarship and Creative Achievement event and returning materials to their owners. Announced that cataloging will stop importing OCLC authority records since current authority records will be available in Alma. Michael: Reports that Circulation is preparing for finals. The paperwork for Circulation’s LTE has been turned in. Will be out a half day this Friday and will be in at 9:00 a.m. next Tuesday, December 9. Patty: Determines that it is time to start talking about a communication plan. Reports that we are running short of time to begin training. She reminds department heads to work with their staff to identify tasks that are done in Voyager and determine how to do them in Alma or develop an alternative. Carol: Received an email from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. They are asking to meet with Carol to discuss projects funded by Student Tech Fees. They will meet December 16. Reports that the Library will be obtaining a subscription to Reference USA. Had a visit from the Springer rep. Working with Apple on transferring the iTunes accounts from Char to Lindsay (the circ desk email.) Barb: Deronica will be out for all of December except for the week of December 15th. This Friday is the student recognition party. Barb will be working a half day on Friday and then be coming back in the evening for the student party and the pizzas. Ellen meeting with Intensive English Institute on how they want to tweak our information literacy tutorials for their English Language Learners. Today at noon there is a webinar about Primo with Alma. January 5 through April 21, Becky will be doing her internship by working 150 hours in the Reference and Instruction Department. Adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
