BTEC First Sport Level 2. Unit 4. Anatomy and Physiology for Sport. (5 credits) Assessment 1. Deadline: Friday 10th December 2010 P1 describe the structure and function of the skeleton. P2 describe the different types of joint and the movements allowed at each. P3 identify the major muscles of the body P4 describe the different types of muscle and muscle movements M1 explain the movements occurring at two synovial joints during four different types of physical activity M2 give examples of 3 different types of muscular contraction relating to 3 different types of physical activity D1 analyse the musculoskeletal actions occurring at 4 synovial joints during 4 different types of physical activity. Scenario. You are undertaking your Sports Leaders Award at Redlands Sports Centre. Your supervisor suggests that the group that you are coaching would improve their skills and techniques if they had a better understanding of the structure and function of both the skeletal and muscular systems. Your task is to produce an ‘easy to follow’ booklet that gives key information of the structure and function of the skeletal and muscular systems and how these work to produce different movements during physical activity. Task 1. The Skeletal System (P1) The first section of your booklet you should: Describe (using diagrams when appropriate to support your descriptions) the structure and function of the skeleton. Task 2. Describe the different types of joint and the movements allowed at each (P2) The next section in your booklet you should include: A diagram of each of the synovial joints in the body The name of each synovial joint The movement allowed at each synovial joint Task 3.Merit (M1) To achieve a merit explain the movements occurring at two synovial joints during four different types of physical activity A penalty kick in football- knee/hip joint A golf swing- shoulder/elbow joint Breast stroke arm action whilst swimming- shoulder/elbow A mountain biker- knee/hip joint Distinction (D1) If you want to achieve a distinction in this task, you must also analyse each of the four sporting movements, detailing the musculoskeletal actions occurring at the synovial joints. Task 4. The Muscular System This section of your booklet should describe (using diagrams when appropriate to support your descriptions): The major muscles in the body. (P3) The different types of muscles.(P4) A description of how muscles move.(P4) Merit (M2) Give examples of 3 different types of muscular contraction relating to 3 different types of physical activity: • A conversion kick in rugby • A bicep curl • An overhead smash in tennis
