Super Marketing
Scenario:
Many new food products are created every year, but only a few have success in the super-markets. Sometimes,
success is more about advertising and getting shelf space than how good a product is. ABC Foods has a new food
product (you create your own product) and they want it to be a winner, meaning they want the product to make it
onto the supermarket’s shelves and people to buy it. The company executives will be hiring an advertising agency to
meet those goals. As an advertisement agency, you are competing for their contract and to do so, you will be making
a multimedia presentation to ABC Foods’ bosses. They want details and they want them fast.
Possible topics to cover (these are only suggestions and are not a requirement for a superior
presentation):
1.
2.
3.
4.
Describe your food product.
Who are the people you are targeting to buy your product?
Where do you want your product to go in the supermarket and why?
What is the process for getting supermarkets to buy your product and give it adequate
display space?
5. Describe the competing products that will be next to yours.
6. How will you package your food product to make it attractive to buyers?
7. What is the margin of profit for the supermarket?
8. What kind of advertising will you do (such as having a celebrity spokesperson, a jingle,
or something else that will be unique)?
9. What successful food campaign is similar to your own proposal?
10. Show a graph illustrating or depicting your projected sales over the next year.

Alien Invasion, No Known Predator
Scenario:
Burmese Pythons, a snake large enough to eat deer and alligators, slither through Everglades
National Park unchallenged. Kudzu is known as "the vine that ate the south” and can grow up to
one foot a day. Asian Carp can jump 10 feet into the air, severely injuring boaters. These are
examples of how some species of plants, animals, insects and pathogens have invaded an
ecosystem, causing significant problems.
The Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar is concerned about non-native invasive species because
they can cause enormous changes in ecosystems by out-competing native species and
dramatically altering the environment, endangering health and safety, and threatening
agriculture. The issue then becomes, is it worth the time and expense, and whether you have the
capability to eradicate these non-native species? You are a team of scientists providing
information on an invasive species in your area of expertise. Your task is to provide information
on the situation and make recommendations for a plan of action to a panel from the Department
of the Interior.
Possible topics to cover (these are only suggestions and are not a requirement for a superior
presentation):
1. What is an invasive species?
2. Describe the species you have chosen that has moved into the environment you want to
protect.
3. What is the history of this species, and how was it introduced to the new environment?
4. How significant is the problem the species has created?
5. Why has this species become so prevalent?
6. What is the economic impact of this invasion?
7. Can this species be eradicated or controlled?
8. What successes or failures have there been on similar species?
9. What costs, time and disruption are needed to eradicate or control this species?
10. What kind of support or resistance can you predict from the local residents?

younger years to reach this goal. Many hopeful gymnasts and students are not aware of what is involved in
qualifying for the United States Gymnastics’ Team. You are a team of former Olympic medalists from various
sports. The U. S. Olympic Committee has asked you to present at a Junior National Gymnastics Conference where
boys and girls your age and younger have come to find out how to prepare themselves for a chance to compete in
future Olympic competitions. Your presentation should provide information on how to succeed, including the huge
commitment it takes to make the United States Gymnastics’ Team.
Possible topics to cover (these are only suggestions and are not a requirement for a superior
presentation):
1. Describe a gymnastics competition.
2. What athletic skills are required?

chancellors read the book and decided they want to start a new football program and within the next three years have
a team that makes it into a bowl game. You are a member of the school’s Athletic Department staff and the
chancellors have tasked you with achieving that goal. Before your school moves forward, they want to make sure
the team is making wise decisions and not breaking any National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules.
They want to see a multimedia presentation that highlights your plan and your recommendations for moving
forward.
Possible topics to cover (these are only suggestions and are not a requirement for a superior
presentation):
1. What is involved in starting a football program?
2. How do scholarships work?
3. How does a school recruit players?

Angry Birds the Word
Scenario:
Creating apps for handheld devices has become a big business. Apps range from fairly simple
concepts to very complex programs. If you talk to people, many of them have an idea for an app.
Some of these ideas really have little or no substance but sometimes people have some great
ideas that are worth developing into an app. Getting an app from concept to users requires
several steps, which your company will need to explain. The people or companies that write the
code to create an app only want to use their time on apps that have the best chance at success.
Your company specializes in following the successes and failures of apps for handhelds and
making recommendations to companies that develop apps. Your company splits a percentage of
revenue generated with the development company so you want to be discerning regarding the
apps you recommend. Your task is to create a multimedia presentation to a company that is new
to writing apps and you would like to develop a good working relationship. Your presentation
should include the app(s) you are recommending along with the whole app process on how to
generate revenue.
Possible topics to cover (these are only suggestions and are not a requirement for a superior
presentation):
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
What is an app?
What are characteristics of successful apps?
What are general categories of apps?
Who are the people or companies that write apps?
In talking to other people, what are their ideas for apps?
Describe your three different app ideas.
Describe the app you are recommending highly to the app development company (sell it).
Who are you targeting with your selected app?
Tell the company what the process is for getting an app from idea to eventually being
available for download (you are assuming they are new to the process).
10. How are profits generated?
