Chemistry 12 Equilibrium Research Assignment
Sulfuric acid, polystyrene, lime and methanol are important industrial chemicals that
depend on equilibrium for their production.
Research the following:
1. The method that is used to produce the chemical.
2. The products that are derived from it.
3. How the reactions are manipulated according to LeChatelier’s Principle.
4. The economic importance of the chemical.
5. Uses for the chemical in industry or society.
A title page and proper bibliography must be included with your report.
The report must address the 5 research points and follow this format.
Title page
Introduction: a paragraph or two that gives an overview of the topic.
Body of report : Written in essay form, include the five research points above.
Conclusion/Analysis statement(s): Wrap up the report with a conclusion that ties the topics
together. Don’t leave the reader hanging.

Research, the Internet and Assignments
Although the Internet is a valuable tool for research, one must always be cautious about content. Check to
see the author of the web site has reputable qualifications. Also, never copy anything directly from a
website and include it in your own work. It is acceptable to include properly referenced quotes, just as
you would for a book or other reference. The rules of Copyright will be strictly followed. All reports,
mini-projects and assignments where outside research is required will include a proper bibliography.
Reports with any text, drawings or photos copied directly from the Internet or any other
resource(Encyclopedia, magazine, etc.) will receive a mark of “0”. Keep a file of information from
encyclopedias, books, magazines or websites so completing a bibliography will become second nature.
Some website authors will give you permission to use their work in an educational project if you write and
ask. You must still reference the work even if you have been given permission for the use. URLs included
in bibliographies must be active sites or value will be deducted from the assignment. A format for
