Course Syllabus for Chemistry Mrs. Lee Rm. 506 General Information General Information concerning homework assignments, classwork, and lab work can be found on my website. GRADING: Grades will be determined based on level of mastery of the standards taught. There are 11 standards in chemistry. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the standards through laboratory experiments, classroom activities, quizzes, tests and other forms of assessments. Standards Covered First Semester #1 Atomic and Molecular Structure # 2 Chemical Bonds # 3 Conservation of Matter # 4 Gases and Their Properties # 5 Acids and Bases # 6 Solutions Standards Covered Second Semester # 7 Chemical Thermodynamics # 8 Reaction Rates # 9 Chemical Equilibrium # 10 Organic and Biochemistry # 11 Nuclear Processes Distribution of Grades Lab work (lab reports, Projects, etc.)…………………………………………………………………………………………..35% Test and quizzes…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..……..35% Homework ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..…………..15% Chemistry Notebooks (black composition book)……………………………………………………………………..……10% Daily participation………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….……....5% HOMEWORK: There is approximately 3-5 hours of homework assigned per week. This includes reading of the chapter(s). It also includes spending 15-20 minutes each night working on your chemistry notebook or other homework. Failure to do the chapter reading and work in your chemistry notebook each night usually results in low - test scores! Homework is due at the very start of class. Text books will be used in class every day. ABSENCE AND MAKE-UP POLICY: There is a relationship between good grades and good attendance. Regular attendance will be expected from all students. Having a good attendance record contributes to high achievement and academic success. When a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to check the class website for missed work. A student has the same number of (excused) absent days to make up the work. Students may not make up work from uncleared absences. Missed work is the responsibility of the student!!!
