Names ____________________, _______________________, _____________________ Per. _____ Egg Drop Project (24 points) You are workers at a new packaging company. Your job is to demonstrate how well your packaging prevents objects from breaking. In order to do this, you must package an egg and drop it from a height of at least 20 feet. You can only use the materials approved by the company (owned by Mr. Nye). Mr. Nye’s company, Eggheads R Us, requires that certain items must be included in your Egg Drop Report. These items are outlined below. In your Egg Drop Report, write or type the information for the following items in complete sentences on a separate sheet of paper. Include all of the group member’s names on the report and this grading rubric. 1. State why you are packaging an egg in the first place. Refer to the scenario above for help. 2. What type of packaging design do YOU THINK would prevent the egg from breaking? 3. Design plan. Draw a sketch and label the parts of your drawing. Write a brief description of the design (1-2 sentences). 4. Prototype test. Construct a clay egg (your prototype) and drop it from a height of 2 meters. Examine the clay egg for any damage. Include your findings in the report. 5. Changing your design. How did you use the results of the clay egg test run (prototype test) to change your design? If you didn’t change your design, then state it. (Answer in complete sentences). 6. The Results of the Demonstration. Did the egg break or crack when it hit the ground? (Answer in complete sentences). 7. Communicating. How could you communicate how well the packaging works (if your egg did not break) or what you could do to improve your design (if your egg broke)? Grading Criteria 0 points 1 point 2 points Content (Report) Very little of the content is discussed in the report About half of the necessary content was included in the report All of the necessary content was included in the report Redesigning (Project & Report) No prototype test was done Minor changes were made possibly after the clay egg (prototype) test Major changes were made possibly after the clay egg (prototype) test if needed Organization/Flow (Report) The report is poorly organized in places and is difficult to read and follow The report flows nicely but is difficult to read or follow at times The report is well organized, flows nicely, and is easy to read and follow Participation (Report & Project) One group member did most of the work Two group members did most of the work (for a group of 3) or both group members did little work All of the group members contributed equally Cooperation (Project) During group work, members did not cooperate fully and argued instead of working problems out Group members worked together some of the time and worked some (but not all) problems out Group members worked together most of the time and made compromises to achieve the final result Demonstration (Project) No demonstration was given The egg broke immediately after hitting the ground The egg did not break or suffered only minimal damage Grading for Egg Drop Project (24 points) Content x 5 = /10 points Redesigning x 2 = /4 points Organization/Flow x 1 = /2 points Participation x 1 = /2 points Cooperation x 1 = /2 points Demonstration x 2 = /4 points
