METC 106: THE GREAT EGG DROP LAB REPORT Due as directed on the class syllabus Each student needs to turn in a lab report. Pond Chapter 7 discusses lab reports. Remember that reports include: 1. Objective-“The objective statement informs the reader why you are doing the experiment, or explains the principle to be examined.” 2. List of equipment- list the equipment your group actually used to build and test your device 3. Theory- a brief discussion of the basic principle to be examined. In the Egg Drop Lab, the theory would be the design of the egg drop device. Discuss the process you and your group used to come up with the final design of your device. 4. Procedure-“describe how the experiment will be accomplished” 5. Data– Table including egg drop weights, times, drop zones… 6. Calculations -in the egg drop experiment you calculate the average velocity of your egg device and your team score 7. Results section – not required for the egg drop lab 8. Conclusion section – Discuss your design and how your egg drop device worked to protect your egg from cracking. Recommendations for improvement should be examined. As the book says, “Please do not write ‘I enjoyed the experiment very much’ in your conclusion. The report is supposed to simulate a business or industrial report, and no research manager is interested in how much, or how little, you enjoyed the experiment.” Reports should be typed using size 12 font and double spaced. Reports are not written in first person. The words “I” and “we” should not appear. See page 222 of the textbook to clarify.
