Grading Polices:
Homework/Classwork (15%) – Homework will be assigned almost everyday, and is due at
the next class meeting. All work must be completed in pencil. All homework must be turned
in at the beginning of class. No late homework will be allowed, under any conditions.. If you
miss class because of an on-campus activity, your homework is still required to be turned in
on the due date.
Quizzes (30%) – Usually 2 quizzes are given per week, depending on the length of the week.
Quizzes will be closed book(s) and closed notes. Quizzes will cover problems similar to the
problems from the assigned homework set. All problems must have work shown, any
problem not accompanied by work will not be graded.. If you are absent on the day of the
quiz it is your responsibility to make up the quiz on the day you return to class or when
stipulated by polices according to Lancer Life.
Tests (30%) – Test is given after the completion of each week. Test will be closed book(s)
and closed notes. No formula sheets of any kind will be allowed. All problems must have
work shown, any problem not accompanied by work will not be graded. If you are
absent on the day of the test it is your responsibility to make up the test on the day you
return to class or when stipulated by polices according to Lancer Life. Students will be able to
make corrections on every test for recover half of the points lost for each particular
question. More explanation will be given in class
Portfolio Assignments (10%) – 2 portfolios are given over the course of the year. The work
will be based on different areas of the syllabus to cover categories of mathematical
investigation and mathematical modeling. Students will be given a maximum of ten days to
complete each portfolio assignment. No late assignments will be accepted. The projects will
count towards 20% of the overall IB score (still only 10% of your grade for this class) in
Math SL/HL. I will grade the portfolio assignments, however, the International
Baccalaureate Organization will moderate the grades I have given. For more details about
the portfolio assignment (Internal Assessment), see the Assignment Outline in the IB
Information packet.
Exams (15%) – A midterm will be given about midway through a semester. A final exam will
be given at the end of a semester. All problems must have work shown, any problem not
accompanied by work will not be graded. The midterm and final will be closed book(s) and
closed noted. No formula sheet(s) of any kind will be allowed.
Grading Scale:
A 100%-95%; A- 94%-90%, B 89%-85%; B- 84%-80%, C 79%-75%; C- 74%-70%, D 69%-60%; F 59%-0%.
IB External Assessment:
The examination will take place on the 3rd and 4th of may 2011 and will count for 80% of the
overall score in Math SL. There will be 5 hours of testing separated into three different
exams, which will be administered on different days. For more details about the external
assessment, see the Assessment Outline in the IB information packet. For exam dates refer
to the lancer calendar.
Supplies: You are require to have the following supplies:
• TI-83-plus calculator (or better)
• Pencils, erasers
• 3-ring binder for only this class
• Dividers with sections for notes (if not taken in a separate spiral notebook), returned
homework, returned quizzes and returned tests.
• Loose-leaf Line paper or a spiral notebook
Office Hours: I will be available in room 604 or 402
• Generally be available in morning 7:30 am-7:55 am in room 402
• After school Tues-Fri, in room 604, unless mentioned otherwise.

Discipline: We will adhere to the standards set forth in Lancer Life, unless otherwise
stipulated herein.
Tardy policy: Anyone who is not inside the classroom and in their seats when the tardy bell
rings (2nd bell) will be marked tardy. The teacher reserves the right to add to this rule during
the school year. All rules of Lancer Life also apply. Note: in summer school 3 tardies equal 1
absence, and 3 absences means no credit will be given for the course
Food/Drink policy: ONLY WATER is allowed in the classroom. Any other type of food
and/or drink is not permitted in the classroom. If any other type of food and/or drink is not
hidden away in your backpack (i.e. if I see it) you will be accessed a $2 food fine and the
food/drink will be thrown out.
Online Grades:
Online grades will be up to date by 10pm every Sunday at the very least.
In general updated grades will be posted within a 48-hour period from an assignment being
handed in (excluding test).
No “I like you” points will be given
(no extra credit is ever assigned)
