COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students expand computer skills through the use of spreadsheet, database management, word processing, and presentation software for the integration of information. COURSE COMPETENCIES: 1. Describe the benefits of working with integrated software. 2. Create and edit word processing documents with tracked changes. 3. Describe what database management systems are and their usefulness in the office. 4. Create and edit database files. 5. Use database software to generate reports and create forms. 6. Describe the concept and uses of spreadsheets in the office. 7. Create a spreadsheet using moderate and advanced functions, formulas, and absolute references. 8. It is your responsibility to thoroughly read this syllabus as it contains very important information regarding this online course. 2. Both SAM software and Microsoft Office 2010 programs will be used in this course to complete Excel and Access assignments. Depending upon time, we may or may not cover Word and PowerPoint. Your textbook should have come with an access code. If not, you will need to purchase an access code. Please check the announcement section in Blackboard for more information. You will need to have your textbook and your SAM account installed for this course by Monday, March 24, 2014. It is important that you have your textbook and SAM installed by this date in order to complete the homework assignments in a timely manner otherwise you will quickly fall behind in this 8-week course. If you do not have your textbook and key code by this date, it would be in your best interest to drop the course. 3. Keep in mind that if you applied for financial aid late, YOU are RESPONSIBLE for purchasing your textbooks and key code and keeping up with YOUR assignments in this class. All assignments, including the first assignment is expected to be submitted on time. 4. Late submissions of Case Problem Assignments will be accepted with the following penalties being imposed: a. Midnight (12:00 a.m.) EST through one day after the due date—Grade will be reduced by 15%. b. Two days after the due date—Grade will be reduced by 30%. c. Three days after the due date---A grade of 0% will be recorded. 5. Late submissions of Tutorial and Internet assignments will not be accepted. 6. All learners will have the opportunity to submit ONE late Case Problem Assignment without penalty. It is the student's responsibility to inform the instructor that he/she wants to use the free late penalty privilege. The late assignment must be submitted within two days of the original due date or it will not be accepted. Anyone not using the free penalty privilege will NOT receive any additional credit or advantages. Please use this free penalty privilege wisely. 7. Quizzes will be administered online via SAM. No make-up quizzes will be allowed. 8. Email me through Blackboard email to receive a quicker response. Use proper English and correct spelling when emailing me. You must have regular access to a computer with Microsoft Word 2010, Excel 2010, Access 2010, PowerPoint 2010, and Internet access in order to log on to and complete all assignments for this course. If you do not have regular access to a computer with Microsoft Word 2010, Excel 2010, Access 2010, PowerPoint 2010, and Internet access this course is not suited for you.
