Course Information
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is the second of three accounting courses. The course content includes both current and
long-term assets, current and long-term liabilities, components of stockholders’ equity, the
corporate income statement, statement of cash flows and financial statement analysis. Real
world illustrations are incorporated reflecting current relevant business practices and applications
of accounting principles.
COURSE PREREQUISITES:
Students must have the following skills:
1. Completion of Accounting 1 or equivelent
2. Demonstrated skills using a word processing program.
3. The ability to navigate and use a browser as well as execute searches on the Internet is
necessary.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate competency in the following:

Identify and define accounts and notes receivable and demonstrate the accounting procedures
related to receivables.
Define and identify plant assets, natural resources, intangibles and demonstrate the accounting
procedures related to the accounting for plant assets, including acquisition, depreciation and
disposal.
Identify and demonstrate accounting procedures for current liabilities, payroll and
payroll taxes.
Describe bonds payable and journalize related transactions, distinguishing between bond
discount and premium.
Describe the corporate form of business organization, the components of stockholders’
equity and journalize related transactions; account for cash dividends and capital stock
transactions.
Identify and give details on items affecting a corporate income statement, account for
corporate income taxes, prepare the income and stockholders’ equity financial statements,
and distinguish between stock dividends and stock splits.
Prepare a statement of cash flows, clarifying the types of activities reported on the
statement.
Demonstrate knowledge in evaluating financial performance using various financial
ratios, analytical tools and techniques.
Define IFRS and recognize its future importance

Instructor Responsibilities
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
Online Courses are equivalent to traditionally taught college courses and meet the same criteria
for academic rigor and qualified faculty. Students complete the course by reading the text,
completing online assignments and communicating with instructors via phone, mail, optional
campus visits or e-mail. Students also will interact with other students through the use of the
Angel Discussion and Mail tools.
METHODS OF ASSESSING STUDENT PROGRESS:
Your grade will be based on online assignments, quizzes, and test; and active participation online
with other students.
Course Structure and Assessment
Each student must:

Using Myaccountinglab.com software, Complete seven graded quizzes' - one for each
chapter. (Total Points 70)
Using Myaccountinglab.com software, Take four exams. (Total Points 400)
Using Angel, Participate in Course Discussions posting at least 8 quality questions and/or
answers. (Total Points 40)
Total of above points = 700
Extra Credit: There are 69 Extra credit points for completing sample problems.
Extra credit points can offset points lost on assignments, quizzes, and tests.
Grades will be based on the following scale:

TESTS: There will be four objective/problem oriented exams. These exams will be taken
online within the Myaccountinglab.com web site. Exams will be available 10 days before the
due date. Exams must be taken by the due date as listed on the Course calendar within Angel
or Myaccountinglab.com. The first 3 exams are limited to 135 minutes each. The Final Exam
has a 150 minute time limit. The computer will post exam grades shortly after you take the
exam. Details as to which questions were missed won't be released until after the deadline
for taking the exam has passed. If you miss an Exam, the instructor may allow you to take
the exam late. There are no extensions possible on the last exam. An individual student
should not expect to receive more than one extension.
ASSIGNMENTS: There are graded assignments and quizzes for each chapter.
Assignments should be completed by the indicated due dates. No assignments are accepted
after the last day of the course. Discuss assignment issues with the instructor. If you miss an
assignment or quiz, the instructor may allow you additional time. There are no extensions
possible on the last set of assignments. An individual student should not expect to receive
more than one extension.
COURSE MODIFICATIONS
Check the Course Calendar in Angel frequently. I will post reminders for exams and due
dates for the assignments and quizzes. Occasionally, due dates for assignments are
changed - changes will be posted on the home page of Angel.
MAINTENANCE OF STUDENT RECORDS:
The instructor will keep a record of exam grades and assignment grades for one year.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
Read and study the textbook, use supplements as desired. Read and study the text
material for each section. Take notes for yourself as you go outlining important ideas and
examples.

Review the narrated audio Power Point presentations for each chapter
Keep in touch with your instructor and your classmates you are encouraged to be
touch with the instructor by telephone and Internet as deemed necessary. Your instructor
is available for several hours on campus during the week. You may drop in or call in
during that time. See Section I of this syllabus.
Work through the DemoDocs for each chapter
Use the Discussion tool to post questions and answer questions posed by other students.
Take advantage of this opportunity to interact with classmates.
Use the Mail tool to interact with your instructor and fellow students one-on-one.
Complete assignments and quizzes for each chapter.
Tests must be taken online during or by the time periods listed in the schedule
Keep in touch with your instructor and classmates.
COURSE COMMUNICATION:
You have two recommended communication tools available within your course: the discussion
feature, and email feature (not a global Internet email but an email that is unique to the course).
Use the communication tools to ensure contact with the instructor and with other students. For
direct communication with the instructor, always use the email feature in the Angel
program.

ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION POLICY:
WX: After the first class meeting and through the Census Date, the instructor will disenroll
(WX) students who have never attended. The Census Date is listed under the Important Dates for
the course in the official Class Schedule at http://www.mccneb.edu/schedule/.
FX: A student who fails to meet class attendance expectations will receive a final grade of FX,
indicating an absence-related failure. A student earning an FX grade prior to the end of the
quarter may avoid receiving the failing grade by withdrawing from the course before the Last
Date to Withdraw from Class.
STUDENT WITHDRAWAL:
If you cannot participate in and complete this course, you should officially withdraw through
WebAdvisor at http://webadvisor.mccneb.edu or by calling Central Registration at 402-457-5231
or 1-800-228-9553. Failure to officially withdraw will result in either an attendance-related
failure (FX) or failing (F) grade. The last date to withdraw is noted in the CLASS
IDENTIFICATION section of this syllabus.
Disenrollment Students who attend no class meetings up to and including the Section Census
Date published in the Class Schedule at www.mccneb.edu/schedule/ may be disenrolled from the
class. There is no appeal for this disenrollment.

consequences for specific academic and non-academic behavior that may result in a failing

1. Chapter assignments, extra credit sample assignments, and quizzes are always due on Thursdays.
Chapter assignments, extra credit sample assignments, and quizzes are available and
can be completed any time prior to their due date. Assignments and quizzes are time
consuming – start assignments and quizzes far ahead of the due dates.
2. Exams are always due on Sundays. Exams become available 10 days prior to their due date
and can be taken anytime during the 10-day availability period. (Because of the Holiday
Season Exam 1 is available 16

*To view the Last Day for a student to withdraw “drop” a class; go to the class schedule found
on line at http://www.mccneb.edu/schedule/classschedule.asp. Then, find the course section
and click on the Important Dates link on the same line as the course title. The refund/withdraw
dates for each course section are automatically calculated based on the start and end dates and
the number of sessions for a course. A student must withdraw by this date to avoid being
assigned a grade of “F”.
REFUND POLICIES for Credit Courses
A student is responsible for withdrawing “dropping” from a course(s) if unable to attend. Nonattendance or non-payment does not relieve a student from the obligation to pay. To withdraw
“drop” from a course, log on to WebAdvisor https://webadvisor.mccneb.edu and click
“Register and Drop Sections”.
An official schedule change that reduces or terminates a student’s academic credit load may
entitle the student to a refund. The eligibility and amount of a refund is automatically
calculated by the date of the withdrawal. A student may see the refund percentage received
through midnight of the same day by logging into WebAdvisor and clicking on the Tuition
Refund Calculator. Note: Schedule changes may have implications for students on Financial
Aid. Check with the Financial Aid Office prior to any schedule changes at 402-457-2330.
