ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY Tucson-Based Instructional Professional School of Criminology and Criminal Justice The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) in the College of Public Programs at Arizona State University invites applications for an Instructional Professional to anchor its undergraduate program at ASU’s campus in Tucson, AZ, and to provide administrative support to the SCCJ’s undergraduate program in Yuma, AZ. The start date is flexible, but ideally would occur in January 2015 because ASU intends to begin offering upperdivision criminology and criminal justice courses in Tucson and Yuma starting in August 2015. The SCCJ is in a period of dynamic growth. We are a nationally-recognized leader in higher education and are highly regarded for our distinguished faculty, research productivity, and topranked instructional programs. From ASU’s campus in Downtown Phoenix, the SCCJ offers the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in criminology and criminal justice; the Ph.D. program is ranked 12th in the United States. The Instructional Professional will assistant the SCCJ faculty in expanding our physical presence to Tucson and Yuma, where upper-division offerings will allow community college graduates the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degrees in-person. The incumbent would teach one or two upper-division courses per semester on ASU Tucson’s campus. In addition, the incumbent is expected to provide a range of administrative and student support for SCCJ’s programs in both Tucson and Yuma. Such responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with recruiting students from southern Arizona into the programs; assisting with recruiting, hiring, and supervising Faculty Associates to serve as adjunct faculty; scheduling classes; coordinating southern Arizona internship opportunities with other SCCJ personnel; and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of the School. Required Minimum Qualifications: An earned master’s degree from a regionally-accredited university in criminal justice, criminology, or a related scientific field Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the baccalaureate level The ability and willingness to travel between Tucson, AZ, and Yuma, AZ, several times per semester, and between Tucson, AZ, and Phoenix, AZ, approximately once per semester Desired Qualifications: An earned doctorate in criminal justice, criminology, or a related social-scientific field from a regionally-accredited university or a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school Experience working in the justice professions Supervisory experience in higher education, the justice professions, or both Academic advising experience The demonstrated ability to work well independently Application Deadline: The initial close date for the position is November 24, 2014 at 9:00am MST.
