CENTRE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES STUDENT TRANSITION EDUCATION PROGRAM WHAT ARE WE OFFERING? The Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD) is offering a summer transition program for students with disabilities entering the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). The Student Transition Education Program (STEP) is designed to assist students in preparing for postsecondary studies. The transition program will help you become familiar with the campus environment and services. You will also have the opportunity to develop and apply skills, which will support your studies at the post-secondary level. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? First-year students with a diagnosis of an acquired brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, medical, physical, visual, hearing or psychiatric disability. WHY SHOULD YOU AT TEND? :: To gain a better understanding of your disability and your rights and responsibilities as a post-secondary student; :: To develop study skills and learning strategies that will help you become a successful student at UOIT; :: To learn how to use UOIT’s course management system (WebCT vista, MyCampus, scheduling, course outlines and calendars); and :: To learn your way around the campus and build new friendships and a support network. To register for STEP, please call the CSD at 905.721.3123 to arrange an initial appointment with a disability advisor to review your medical or psychological documentation. Initial appointments must be completed by the end of July to attend STEP. NOTE: If you require any disability related accessibility accommodations during STEP, please notify the disability advisor during your initial appointment.
