EDUCATION
PROGRAM
WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?
The Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD) is offering
a summer transition program for students with disabilities
entering the University of Ontario Institute of Technology
(UOIT). The Student Transition Education Program (STEP)
is designed to assist students in preparing for postsecondary studies.
The transition program will help you become familiar with
the campus environment and services. You will also have
the opportunity to develop and apply skills, which will
support your studies at the post-secondary level.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
First-year students with a diagnosis of an acquired brain
injury, autism spectrum disorder, medical, physical, visual,
hearing or psychiatric disability.
WHY SHOULD YOU AT TEND?
:: To gain a better understanding of your disability and your
rights and responsibilities as a post-secondary student;
:: To develop study skills and learning strategies that will
help you become a successful student at UOIT;
:: To learn how to use UOIT’s course management system
(WebCT vista, MyCampus, scheduling, course outlines
and calendars); and
:: To learn your way around the campus and build new
friendships and a support network.
WHEN CAN YOU ATTEND?
August 2011*
*For exact date information please contact the CSD office.
HOW DO YOU REGISTER?
To register for STEP, please call the CSD at 905.721.3123
to arrange an initial appointment with a disability advisor
to review your medical or psychological documentation.
Initial appointments must be completed by the end of July
to attend STEP.
NOTE: If you require any disability related accessibility
accommodations during STEP, please notify the disability
advisor during your initial appointment. Accommodations
