Greetings Saints and Parents
February has been a tremendous month for all
of our Saints! We hosted two successful Open
House events which brought several students into
St. Lawrence Secondary School to learn about the
excellent programming and co-curricular
opportunities available at our school. Our curling
team, coached by Mrs. Simpson & Mr. Dulmage,
won the bronze medal at the SD&G Finals held at
the Cornwall Curling Club.
Our junior boys basketball team, coached by
Mr. Greenley and Mr. Carlisle, defeated Holy
Trinity to win the SD&G Championship; then our
senior boys basketball team, coached by Mr. Carr
and Mr. Ward, defeated Holy Trinity once again to
take a second SD&G Championship! Our junior
basketball team went on to win the gold medal at
the EOSSAA tournament in Hammond, Ontario.
The senior basketball team won the silver medal
at their EOSSAA Championship in Renfrew. The
silver medal earned the senior team the right to
play in the OFSAA Championship beginning on
March 08 in Windsor, Ontario. Our senior team
and athletics department will be working hard to
raise money to help defray some of the cost
associated with travel expenses to the
tournament. Please support our players. The
junior and senior basketball teams will play in
their UC Cup Championships on March 03 and
March 05 respectively. St. Lawrence Secondary
School will host the senior UC Cup final.
St. Lawrence Secondary School represented
quite well at the Skills Canada Competition which
took place at St. Lawrence College in February.
Seraph Liu and Tara Bradley both took gold
medals for hairstyling and aesthetics. Our drama
program achieved a gold medal in theatre arts, as
well. Congratulations Saints! On February 25,
staff and students wore their pink shirts as a
symbol of our commitment to stand up against
bullying in all of its forms. Finally, we wish our
intermediate basketball teams, coached by Mr.
Jerrard and Mr. Ward, the best of luck as they
compete in their regional UC Cup qualifiers this
month.
Parent Teacher Night, Grades 7-12
Wednesday March 11, 6-8 p.m.
Please be reminded that our
grades 7 to 12 ParentTeacher Interview Night will

in our school gymnasium. We
look forward to another great
turnout for this night. Parents of students in
grades seven and eight will be able to discuss
their child’s term one report card issued on
February 12. A letter was mailed home to all
elementary students and parents with their report
cards inviting them to this event. Parents of
students in grades nine to twelve will be able to
discuss their child’s progress in the first five weeks
of semester two as evidenced in the preliminary
report card issued on March 09. Please do not
hesitate to call the school at any time if you have
any questions or require additional information.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Character Always Education
Character Education is valued at SLSS. Monthly,
staff nominate male and female students from
grades 7-12 who exemplified the character trait
highlighted for that month – in March, the trait is
caring. Character Education is embedded in the
curriculum that we teach and the actions we
perform at SLSS. Whenever possible, staff make a
point to connect their instruction and their efforts
with students to the character education values
and credo.

Earlier this month I had the amazing opportunity
to receive training with the Red Cross, Respect Ed
program, Healthy Youth Relationships. This
training has provided me with the skills to now
train youth facilitators. This means students will
accompany me in the delivery of this program!
Often young adults respond more positively when
peers are delivering a message. This process also
helps develop leadership skills in our youth. It was
a difficult task but I have selected the 15 students
to train in this program for this school year. Our

Attendance, Punctuality and Safe
Arrival
Students must attend school daily in order to have
the best chance at being successful. Parents or
guardians, if your child is going to be absent
from school or late, please contact the office
and advise the Attendance Secretary by
7:45 am. If we have not heard from a parent or
guardian, we will contact the home of any student
who is not in school when the attendance is taken
for those students in grade 7 & 8. If a student is
going to be absent for more than a day it is very
important to call the school and request that work
be sent home for the student.
Bowl for Big Brothers Big Sisters
On Saturday, Feb 7th, a small but stupendous
team of Saints hit the lanes at Nativity Bowl as
part of Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl for Kids
Sake tournament. Team Flaro had a hilarious
time, with the antics of Talon Flaro, Thomas Flaro,
Dakota Durocher and Justin Lamoureux-Lalonde
providing entertainment for all
around. Madame Fontaine did
her best to crack 100 --- and
crushed her previous PB by 33
points  What a way to
spend a snowy Saturday
afternoon, and all for a great
cause. Over $60,000 was
raised in Cornwall, and SLSS
was proud to be part of the action! Thanks to all
who supported this event.
