King Curlicue remembers surfing
on a rolling wave, bouncing
with a kangaroo, finding hidden
drawings scratched into bricks,
watching the ducks on the pond,
dancing with a water-nymph,
staring up at a very tall column,
being thrilled when he found a
rainbow and he always saves his
favourite sculpture to last.

KING CURLICUE
FIND HIS EAR?

to help you retrace the King’s
steps and find his lost ear!

DANCING WITH A WATER NYMPH
This sculpture is called Nayads. A Nayad is also
known as a water nymph.
Water nymphs are spirits of nature and like
to dance and sing! Does the Nayad look like
she is dancing now? The King likes to try and
copy her pose, but gets his arms and legs all
confused. Can you copy her pose?

VISITING FRIENDS IN THE POND
Cameron’s Pond gets lots of visitors. Sometimes it’s
a person and their dog, othertimes you might see a
family of ducks. The King likes sitting and watching
the different animals that call the lake home.
This sculpture is called The Set.
When you have more than one wave come into the
ocean shore, it is called ‘a set of waves’.
What about when you stand at the smaller
column and look back at the tallest column, does
it still look as tall?
Walk to the end of the jetty and look down between
the wooden boards. If you are very still and quiet
you might be able to see the fish that live in the lake!
They like to hide underneath the jetty in the shade.
Does this sculpture remind you of waves?
Does it feel cold like the ocean?
This sculpture has two parts.
How many steps does it take to walk
between them?
What material is The Set made from?

A RAINBOW IN THE SKY
Oh dear! It looks like the kangaroo has bounced
so high he has landed on his head!
The artist Mark Galea is really interested in
squares and rectangles and how different
colours make us feel.
Behind his head is a circle that represents the
sun. Does it look like a real kangaroo? What is
different? What is the same?
The King’s favourite colour is green because it
reminds him of leaves on a tree.
What does a kangaroo’s fur feel like?
A TOWER THAT REACHES THE SKY
The King likes this sculpture because it is so
much taller than him. Walk to the tallest column
and stand close-by. Look up at the sky, does the
column look like it is touching the clouds?
Can you find the surname of the artist?
BOUNCING WITH A KANGAROO
3
This sculpture is very low to the ground, almost like
it is hiding! It has curves and grooves and two holes
that catch the rain. Could it be a racing car track? Or
maybe it’s a cloud that has fallen from the sky!
Walk in a circle around the sculpture. What
happens to the Nayad? Can you see her from
every side? Or does she disappear?

SEARCHING FOR HIDDEN DRAWINGS
Lots of different artists have drawn on the path!
The King likes to search for Australian animals.
Can you find the emu? Draw him here.
What other animal might live in the pond?
8
THE KING’S FAVOURITE SCULPTURE
The last thing The King did was visit his
favourite sculpture. Can you work out why this
is his favourite?
What is the title of this sculpture?
Which is your favourite colour?
Look closely! The King will be so pleased!
Thank you for finding all of his lost ears!
What does this sculpture feel like?
What does your favourite colour
remind you of?
How many ears can you see?
