IOBC/WPRS - International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control of Noxious Animals and Plants. West Palaearctic Regional Section OILB/SROP Organisation Internationale de Lutte Biologique et Intégrée contre les Animaux et les Plantes Nuisibles. Section Régionale Ouest Paléarctique First announcement 8th Meeting IOBC-WPRS Working Group Integrated Protection in Oak Forests University of Córdoba October 23th-27th, 2016 The Working Group "Integrated Protection in oak forests " integrated by experts in fungal pathogens, pests and forest management, organizes every three years an international meeting in order to develop multidisciplinary research on characterization of biotic and abiotic factors involved in the decline phenomena of oak forests and to promote collaborations between European and North African researchers. It is indeed important to develop common strategies for the protection and conservation of Mediterranean oak forests, notably cork oak forests whose economic and environmental values are a single binomial. Large gaps still exist in our knowledge of the genus Quercus, so that many species remain seriously threatened. In recent years, especially in the Mediterranean Basin, several problems such as emerging pathogens and invasive insects, climate change, or drought and fires, have deteriorated the health of these forests, requiring the development of new forest management and restoration protocols. It is necessary to promote a "sustainable forest management" in order to maintain the biodiversity, productivity, renewal capacity, vitality and potential of oak forests. The eighth meeting of the Working Group "Integrated Protection in oak forests” will be held in this context. It will take place in Córdoba, Spain, from 23 to 27 October 2016. Topics of the meeting 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Phytosanitary status of oak forests Decaying factors (biotic, abiotic and anthropic) and theirs dynamics Bio-ecology of pathogenic fungi Bio-ecology of insect pests Integrated control Oak forest facing climate changes and forest management strategies Registration The registration form (Word format) will be sent soon; it must be filled and sent by e-mail before February 10th, 2016 to the following address: Mª Esperanza Sánchez Hernández (local organizer), local contact: quercus2016@uco.es The estimated cost of the meeting and the registration fee will be announced later.
