New Innovation Village Website Have you seen the new Innovation Village website yet? Take a moment to explore its updated design at http://www.innovationvillage.org/index.html Human Resources System Updated In Mach 2013, our human resources information system and timekeeper system (Kronos) became inaccessible from outside of the campus environment, which removed functionality designed to access the system from outside of campus. foundation.csupomona.edu On Friday, December 13 a planned outage of the human resources system took place in order to migrate the entire platform to Cloud Services. Since the migration, key features have returned to the Self-Service, such as allowing employees to access Employee and Manager SelfService while off campus without the need to use VPN. We are excited about migrating to Cloud Services and providing enhanced functionality to all who access the system. 2 Mark Your Calendars! upcoming events ... Foundation, I just wanted to give a standing ovation to the entire staff at Los Olivos for preparing an awesome Thanksgiving lunch today. The meal was great! I look forward to this event every year! Have a great day. Dave Flores Rideshare Coordinator, Parking & Transportation Services Foundation, The College Reading Skills Program would like to thank Foundation for their generous donation of coffee, water, chips, and granola bars. With your donation, we were able to continue our annual Crunch N Munch for participants in our program. This meant providing morning snacks for our students during finals week along with a quiet place to study. As you may know, The College Reading Skills Program is a TRIO Student Support Services program, federally funded and serving first generation, lowincome and students who have been diagnosed with a disability. Because of a decrease in our budget, we were unsure whether we would be able to provide this service to our student as we have in previous years. Your generous donations made it happen! On behalf of The CRSP Staff and Students, Thank you and Happy Holidays! Rachel Dominguez College Reading Skills Program 4 Thank You, Marcie Wong! Marcie Wong has had a long relationship with the Foundation as she once worked at Round Table Pizza and Subway as a student employee before being promoted to Starbucks interim manager last summer. Marcie was so exceptional in her new position that she was promoted to Starbucks manager in fall. Although she has only been manager for a short time, Marcie has already made a prominent footprint in the overall operation. Prior to Marcie’s promotion, Starbucks was in the midst of management change, and when she was brought aboard, she had a mountain of obstacles to tackle in order to get the store where it needed to be. “She worked morning till night to help get Starbucks on track,” says Assistant Director of Retail Dining Sandy Cain. Since Marcie assumed her position, there have been numerous positive changes, including the implementation of Playbook. Playbook is a Starbucks’ customer service initiative that focuses on a new way of thinking about how to staff and deploy baristas to meet customer needs. Our Starbucks at Cal Poly Pomona was handselected by the company for implementation of this cutting-edge program because of the positive reputation Marcie has helped create. “It is crystal clear that the store is running much better and customer service has visibly improved,” states Chief Employment Officer Dennis Miller. “The hard work of Marcie and her team has paid off.” Because of Marcie’s assiduous attitude and determination, Starbucks at the University Library has notably transformed, and now has an effective system that helps the store run as smoothly as possible. “It has been a pleasure to watch her grow into this amazing employee,” expresses Sandy. “I am so proud of her.” Thank you for all your hard work, Marcie! 5 Shop24 Grand Opening Be sure to stop by the University Village on Tuesday, January 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the grand opening of Shop24! One in particular is the It Takes a Village to Feed the Homeless. This interest group recognizes that Cal Poly Pomona is part of the larger Pomona community; therefore, the group wants to actively serve the local population, particularly the homeless. This group is about compassion for the Pomona community and shows that by using some of their resources, time, energy, skills, and finances for the homeless and less fortunate in downtown Pomona, so things can be accomplished. They not only feed the homeless population in downtown Pomona, but equally as important, work to restore human dignity to people who have been all too often ignored, disregarded, spat at, and rejected by much of society. The group makes delicious and healthy homemade meals each week and spends time building relationships with the homeless population while passing the meals out. Whether it is homemade tacos, chicken kabobs, Mediterranean turkey burgers, fresh brewed coffee, or bottles of water, it comes with authentic care, conversation, and the hope to restore people within society. If you are interested in getting involved or donating, please contact Brad Penna at bcpenna@csupomona.edu. 8 She Unit Wins Flag Football Championship University Village Student Coordinator (SC) Aimee Gutierrez, Resident Advisor (RA) Kiana Lewis, Resident Elniqua Farris, and their team She Unit won the 2013 Women’s Intramural Flag Football Championship this fall. She Unit led almost the entire game 13-6, but Chi Omega was able to tie with one second left on the clock. In overtime, both teams each had a chance to score on four downs, and She Unit came on out top with a pass to the outside. “We came into the game with determination and focus.
