Holkham Class newsletter Autumn 2014 Welcome back! We are looking forward to working at Holt CP School and with all the year 4 children in Holkham class. Our topic this half term is World War Two. We will be focussing on the home front, for example rationing, digging for victory, evacuation and propaganda. If children would like to begin to research these topics, the Woodlands Junior site is a good starting point. www.resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/homework/Britain During literacy we will be reading and writing information texts about Anne Frank and writing stories with a historical setting. To inform our work we will be ‘evacuated’ aboard the North Norfolk Railway on Tuesday 30th September (more details will follow.) The topic will culminate in a World War Two museum on 22nd October which we would like to invite you to attend (again, more details will follow!) If you have any artefacts or information you are willing to share with the class, we would love to see them! In numeracy we will be learning about place value and continuing to develop skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Rapid recall of their times tables is essential so we would like the children to practise these ‘little and often.’ There are many useful websites which can help children practise their maths skills in an enjoyable way. You could try www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths Homework will be set on Wednesday and needs to be handed in by the following Monday. This will include a spelling and numeracy task. We do expect the children to read at least five times a week and record this in their diaries. Please sign your child’s homework diary after discussing their homework and reading and they will be checked and signed in school on Wednesday. Our PE sessions are on Monday and Thursday. We advise the children bring their kits in on Mondays and leave them in school until Friday. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to one of us. Mrs Haynes and Mrs Cole
