Modifying BIOS Settings to
Improve Operational Reliability
of R189 One-Net™ SE with 1.6GHz Processors
Shipped Prior to September 1, 2011
Several One-Net SE units with 1.6GHz processors have been found with improper
BIOS settings from the vendor. Under certain operating conditions these units might
intermittently shut down and prevent subsequent reboots. This procedure resets the
BIOS operating conditions to ensure the units are properly configured. This Field
Service Bulletin applies only to very specific R189 One-Net SE models with 1.6GHz
processors.
Customers who have this configuration are strongly urged to apply the procedure
described below. This updating procedure takes approximately 3 minutes to perform.
Verifying If Update Is Necessary
To confirm if this procedure applies to your unit, log into the unit via web browser. Select
the SERVER > STATUS > CPU. In the CPU list, look for the number next to CPU MHz.
If the number is 1599.xxx, this procedure applies to the unit. Other speed CPU’s are not
affected by this procedure. Refer to Figure 1

Equipment Required
The updating procedure requires direct connection to the R189 One-Net chassis and
cannot be performed via the standard web interface. You must attach directly to the
keyboard and VGA output connectors on the One-Net. A mouse is not required.
a. Standard PC Keyboard with PS-2 or USB connector
b. Standard PC VGA Monitor
Update Procedures
1. Power down the unit to be modified by momentarily pressing the power
rocker switch on the back panel. Wait for the unit to complete its shutdown
procedure and power off.
2. Connect the keyboard and monitor to the keyboard and VGA ports on the
ONENET rear panel. (The keyboard connector is purple if using PS-2)
3. Power up the unit by again pressing the power switch.
4. As soon as the unit starts to boot, press the DELETE key to enter the BIOS
settings page.
5. After the BIOS setting page is displayed press the down arrow to select PC
HEALTH STATUS as shown in Figure 2.

6. Press ENTER. The PC Health Status screen should appear with the Shutdown
Temperature field highlighted as shown in Figure 3.

7. Press ENTER. A selection menu appears.
8. Using the arrow keys move the selection box to “Disabled”.
9. Press ENTER returns to the PC Health Status screen.

10. Using the arrow keys highlight the CPU Thermal-Throttling Temp field as
shown in Figure 5.

11.Using the “Page Up” and the “Page Down” keys change the value to “75”.

12. Using the arrow keys highlight the CPU Thermal-Throttling Duty field as
shown in Figure 7.

13.Press ENTER. A selection menu appears.
14.Using the arrow keys move the selection box to “75”.
15.Press ENTER returns to the PC Health Status screen.

16. Press F10 and the following screen should appear:
17. Press ENTER.
18. The unit should now re-boot and be ready for service.
19. Disconnect the keyboard and monitor.
