New England Aquarium

Internships at the New England Aquarium for college students are available for the January term,
spring, summer and fall.
Seattle Aquarium

The internship program is designed to provide participants with practical learning experience in
the Zoo and Aquarium field. Positions are available four times per year in both the life science
and education departments and are open to all levels of students.
Marine Advanced Technology Education Center Internship Program

Interns work as marine technicians aboard sea-going research vessels that are part of
the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) and the United States Coast
Guard.

The institute offers summer research internships that are competitively based and are typically

COSEE Pacific Partnerships PRIME Internship Program

Promoting Research Investigations in the Marine Environment (PRIME) internship program pairs
community college students with a marine scientist mentor for an 8-10 week summer research
experience at one of COSEE Pacific Partnerships marine laboratory partners in Oregon,
Washington, and Hawai'i. Interns receive a stipend and on-site housing is provided.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Hollings Undergraduate Fellowship Program

The Hollings Undergraduate Fellowship Program provides approximately 100 college
undergraduates up to $29,000 to further their academic studies related to oceanic and
atmospheric science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities; and to
offer a related summer internship designed to provide "hands-on" multi-disciplinary training.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Educational Partnership Program
Undergraduate Scholarship Program

The Program provides an opportunity for rising junior and senior students to study disciplines
relating to the NOAA's mission. Students attending Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) receive
appointments to approved NOAA offices and sites upon acceptance to the program.

Udall Scholarships

Morris K. Udall scholarships provide up to $5,000, or the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and
board, whichever is less, to sophomores and juniors who study the environment or related fields,
and those with Native American or Native Alaskan backgrounds who study health care or tribal

Oceans and Human Health Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The Oceans and Human Health track is part of the Summer Undergraduate Research Program
(SURP) at the Medical University of South Carolina. It offers underrepresented minority students
the opportunity to work on cutting edge environmental/biomedical research projects. Students are
registered for this 15 hour course, the credit of which can be transferred to their home institution.
Successful applicants will have tuition waived and be provided a stipend for living allowance
and room and board.

The Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (PSLSAMP) is a collaborative
effort sustained by a coalition of five colleges and universities in Georgia to significantly increase
the number of underrepresented minority students statewide who complete undergraduate degrees
in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

REU's are internship programs, usually held in the summer, for students who have not graduated
from college. The Division of Ocean Sciences sponsors 20 REU sites across the U.S. that are focused
on marine science, and other Divisions sponsor hundreds of other sites in addition that focus on
everything from computer science and engineering to biology and social science.

Competition

June 2011 - NASA Johnson Science Center’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab, Houston, Texas
Organized in partnership with the Marine Technology Society (MTS) ROV Committee, the MATE
Center’s competition challenge student teams to design and build ROVs (remotely operated vehicles)
to accomplish tasks based on the ocean technical workplace.
Graduate students for Ocean Education (GrOE)
