Friday 5th February Dear Parents and Carers, In storytelling this week, we have started a new block of non-fiction work specifically looking a recounts in preparation for writing our own, based on a day in the life of an Egyptian. The children have had great fun researching about the hierarchy of ancient Egypt and will begin to write their recounts next week. As your child to explain the ‘ppsa’ sentence to you – this means position + place + action sentence and looks a little bit like this: From the base of the pyramid, I saw the almighty Cleopatra walking towards me. During spellings, we focused on the ‘ture’ spelling (words that end in ture) How many can you think of together with your child? In Maths we have revisited column subtraction and addition, with the year 4s beginning to work through 2 step problems using both operations. We also had a big focus on mental maths: adding 2 digits to 2 digits in our heads and this is something that would be great to practise at home. Of course Wednesday was our Dazzle Day where all classes produced some fantastic clay pots inspired by Egyptian Canopic jars. All classes demonstrated great patience with the clay and worked amazingly well. The pots have now gone to be biscuit fired before we can paint them. A big thank you to Mrs Beard for organising that. Please remember that next Wednesday is Egyptian day meaning that some form of Ancient Egyptian clothing / headdress is highly desired! Finally, well done to the Stingrays today who had their class assembly. Thank you for your support with this. Have a lovely weekend, Miss Chew, Miss Irving, Mrs Irvine and Mrs McClymont
