ENGLISH PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY
http://assets.cambridge.org/052178/6134/sample/0521786134WS.pdf
Objective:
Description:
To provide basic theory based on English language
system and phonology so that students are able to
acquire certain tools to get familiar with sounds and
phonemes.
This website is a practical course for EFL students,
especially for teacher ones. As teachers, we have to be
aware of the amount of sounds and phonemes the
English language has.
To help us, this website provides a chart of the IPA as
well as several explanations about the production of
speech sounds, diphthongs, consonants, vowels and
stress timing.
From this point of view, it would be highly
recommended to focus on this website so that teachers
build an appropriate teaching model of the language to
enhance pupils learning.

PRONUNCIATION TIPS
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/pron/
Objective
Description
This website aims to help the English as foreign language
students to improve their pronunciation by providing
several materials, such as, videos with practical
examples of how English sounds are pronounced and
basic theory of the most important English pronunciation
features.
BBC English Pronunciation tips are one of the sections of
the BBC webpage. It is a course of pronunciation that
shows the standard southern English pronunciation, in
order to help foreign English language students to be
able to pronounce correctly.
The webpage is divided into five sections. In the
introduction, it can be found general information
regarding the website objectives and contents.
Then, in The sounds of English, there is information
about the English sounds, as well as, videos for each
sound, which show how to articulate them, give some
examples of words that contain them and allow the user
to practice. Besides, there are five units of exercises to
practice the discrimination of pairs of sounds.
In the third section, Features of English, the user will find
the explanation of four characteristics of the English
pronunciation: non-agreement of sounds and spelling,
schwa, connected speech and voicing.
In the Quizzes section, the user will be able to test their
knowledge with five easy to medium difficulty quizzes, in
which s/he will have to put into practice listening,
reading and writing skills. Each quiz has ten questions
and once they are finished the score is shown.
As for the last section, Programmes, there are three
radio programmes made with guest Alan Stanton, who is
an expert in pronunciation, which deal with the weak
form schwa, the link between sounds, and several
connected speech phenomenon.

Objective
Description
-Pronunciation tips of how to pronounce diphthongs and
the alphabet vowels and consonants in isolation.
There are 4 sections:
-To give a slightly idea of how stress pronunciation works
in the English language (stresses inside a word or a full
sentence, or intonation of questions).
-
-
In section num. 1: “Sounds,” you can see the
symbols of the diphthongs of English, and a
video shows you their pronunciation in isolation
or inside one word.
In the second section: “Stress”, you can practice
word stress or sentence stress with some
examples.
In section num. 3: “Intonation”, you can
practice, with some few examples, the
intonation down or up inside a question.
In the last section: “Phonemic chart”, we can
listen in isolation to the different letters from the
English Alphabet.
In fact, it is a very short section all in all, but very useful
to get the main idea of how pronunciation works in
English. However no explanation about how we have to
do the sounds, as it is shown in the examples, is given.

There are 4 sections:
-
To practice if we stress the correct syllables in a word.

In section num. 1: “vowels,” you can see
the symbols of the vowels in English and
you can listen how they are pronounced in
isolation or inside one word. You can also
see how the sounds are written
represented.
In the second section: “Diphthongs”, you

ALPHABLOCKS (CBeebies)
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ALPHABLOCKS&aq=f
Alpha blocks are a series of videos created by the CBeebies website (a section of the BBC). They can be found at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/alphablocks/watch/alphablocksclips/ however, the website doesn’t allow non UK countries to display
them (there are some ways to do it, you can find them out on the net), for this reason I have written a Youtube link, because you can
find most of the videos there and watch them without any trouble.
Objective
Description
Its purpose is to entertain, while showing children that
wordplay can be really fun. It is based on best-practice
phonics teaching and it can help young children develop
engagement and confidence with pronouncing and
reading words.
Alpha blocks are a series of 26 entertaining cartoon
episodes created for English native children learning to
read and write. However, they are an excellent listening
practice and can be really useful to help children to learn
how the English sounds are pronounced.

Objective:
Description
Related to pronunciation, this web is very useful to work
on and hear how the different English sounds
(consonants and vowels of the English alphabet are
pronounced in isolation and inside some words.
This web is a very visual way to learn letters and sounds
and the same time. Through the repetition of sounds in
isolation and the same sound inside a word, and in a very
funny way, children will be able to join the representation
of the sound with the sound itself. Repetition is very
important as sound are constantly repeated even if when
you don`t look for it (for example to pass from one
activity to another).
Apart from that it also offers some practise (through
short and very useful songs for children, and some
resources activities for teachers to work on phonics.
