Science Assessment Body Systems Presentation Unit – Cells and Systems Name: _______________ Date:_____________ Knowledge Outcomes 3. Interpret the healthy function of human body systems, and illustrate ways the body reacts to internal and external stimuli 4. Describe areas of scientific investigation leading to new knowledge about body systems and to new medical applications Skill Outcomes Work collaboratively on problems; and use appropriate language and formats to communicate ideas, procedures and results Knowledge Objectives Group Work Question(s) Mark 4 3 2 1 Group clearly communicates all required information in an interesting, engaging and thought provoking presentation. May include other interesting details pertaining to the system. Group members consistently work together to positively contribute to their presentation; correct language and formatting is used Group communicates all required information in presentation. Group communicates most information in their presentation. Group does not communicate all required information in their presentation. Group members mostly work together to contribute to their presentation; correct language and formatting is used most of the time Group members sometimes work together to contribute to the presentation; correct language and formatting is used some of the time Group members do not work together well; correct language and formatting is used infrequently. Body Systems Assignment Work in groups of two to create a presentation of one of the body systems which we discussed in class. You need to present: accurate representations and descriptions of the roles of the organs in your organ system (what the organs are, and what they do) ways in which various types of cells contribute to the healthy functioning of the human body changes in body functions in response to changing conditions links to the other organ systems that your organ system is connected to any major dysfunctions and diseases associated with your system; including examples of research into functions and dysfunctions of human cells, organs or body systems ways in which research about cells, organs and systems has brought about improvements in human health and nutrition factors that affect the healthy function of the human respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems Once your project is complete, your group must describe your organ system and its functions to the rest of the class in detail. Your classmates will be completing a worksheet based on your presentation, so make sure your information is accurate, complete and clear. Seven classes will be given to work on this assignment. Three will be for research and four will be to put together your project. Use the attached question sheet to help guide your research. Refer to the rubric on the below for scoring criteria. Body Systems Assignment Research Question Sheet 1. The organs that are part of your organ system. 2. What are the functions of all of the organs in your system and how do they work together to help the body? 3. How do the various types of cells contribute to the healthy functioning of the system? 4. Examples of changes in body functions which respond to changing conditions. 5. Links from your organ system to the others. 6. What are some factors that affect the healthy function of the human system? 7. What are some of the disorders and/or diseases which affect your organ system? Are they preventable or treatable? 8. Examples of research about cells, organs and systems which has brought about improvements in human health and nutrition
