Example: skin grafts have saved lives of people with serious burns. Organ Transplants: the transfer of an organ from one body to another. Tissue transplants: the transfer of tissue. Rejection: when the immune system of a transplant recipient fights against the organ. Transplant recipients: usually have to take anti-rejection drugs to suppress, or lower the effect of, the immune system for the rest of their lives. Are vulnerable to infections Organ and Tissue Donation: Donated tissues and organs can come from living or deceased donors. There is a shortage of organs and tissues available for transplant in Canada. Artificial Organs: Could be used until a suitable donor is found, or as a permanent replacement.
