COURSE OUTLINE Near East University Department of Civil Engineering Spring 2014-2015 NAME OF THE COURSE: COURSE CODE: DEPARTMENT / DIVISION: ACADEMIC PROGRAM: STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS II CE382 CIVIL ENGINEERING / STRUCTURE UNDERGRADUATE Undergraduate/ Postgraduate (Master) / Postgraduate (Doctorate) SEMESTER: CREDITS: REQUIRED / SELECTIVE: LANGUAGE OF THE COURSE: CONTACT: Name Surname SPRING 4 REQUIRED ENGLISH Asst.Prof.Dr. Rifat Reşatoğlu (rifat.resatoglu@neu.edu.tr) (Title), e-mail AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The main purpose of this course is to introduce civil engineering students to classical and matrix methods of structural analysis. The main idea is to determine the magnitudes of force and displacement for each element of a design system for a given set of design loads. The course intoduces several methods for analyzing statically indeterminate structures. COURSE CONTENT Basic concepts in structural analysis. Displacement methods in structural analysis. Discretization of structures. The concept of degree of freedom.(degree of kinematic indeterminacy). Slope deflection method. Derivation of slope deflection equations, applications to continuous beams and frames. Moment distribution method. Development of the method, applications to continuous beams and frames. Stiffness method. Development of the method. Element stiffness matrices with respect to local coordinate system. Element stiffness matrices with respect to global coordinate system. Structure stiffness matrix assembly process. Applications to trusses, beams and frames.
