HUTCHINGS CAREER CENTER BUSINESS EDUCATION SYLLABUS Course Title: Legal Environment of Business Course Description: Legal Environment of Business is the second course in the Small Business Development Career Pathway. This course concentrates on the legal aspects o business ownership and management. Legal issues will include contracts, sales, consumer law, agency and employment law, personal and real property, risk management, environmental law, and government effects on business. The impact of ethics on business operations will be studied. International business principles are infused in the standards for Legal Environment of Business. Mastery of these standards through project-based learning and leadership development activities of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will help prepare students with a competitive edge for the global marketplace. Prerequisites: Computer Applications and Business Essentials Teacher: Mrs. Maggie Bruce Course Standards: Georgia Performance Standards for Legal Environment of Business Ethics (1-3) Business Law (4-13) Risk Management (14-21) Teaching Strategies: Various technological and learning strategies will be used to assist students in achieving the course objectives. Guest speakers and work-based learning activities may be incorporated into this course. Failure to follow the guidelines will result in consequences as set forth in the Policy. Industry Certification: The Business Department at Hutchings Career Center is Industry Certified. Industry Certification is a program implemented to promote high quality instruction in business education at the high school level.
