Materials Needed Computer Lab with access to the World Wide Wibe LCD Projector Whiteboard Objectives: Students will be able to discuss and describe school subjects and class schedules Students will be able to say what they and others do in the present tense using regular AR verbs Assessment: Students will complete in written comprehension activities Students will take a mini-quiz on AR verb conjugation Excite the Learner Activity 1: (10 min.) The teacher calls on students to share their “horarios”. Based on their “horarios”, the teacher creates a sample “horario” on the board. The class goes over the homework. Various students go to the board and write out sentences in response to the homework questions. The class collectively corrects any grammatical errors. The teacher ensures that this is done in a supportive and encouraging manner. The teacher then transitions to the topic of verbs by asking students, ¿Qué haces en tus clases? Actividad 2a: (5 min.) ¿Qué haces en tus clases? Students complete the key questions (las preguntas claves) Las pregunta claves: 1. What kinds of things do you regularly do in all of your classes? 2. What do you do regularly in your Spanish class? Actividad 2b: (5 min.) The class generates a list on the board of typical class related activities. The teacher (underlines) draws the class’ attention to the most common school-related activities (i.e. read, write, speak, listen, study, learn). The teacher then asks students what kind of words are these; what part of speech. The teacher explains that these are all verbs and that, like English, the Spanish language also has verbs. The teacher then writes the Spanish translation for the English verbs on the board in the infinitive form. Enlighten the Learner Activity 3: (10 min.) Los verbos: Old School Rap The teacher explains briefly that today the class will learn about Spanish verbs. Students will listen to an audio recording regarding Spanish verbs. As they listen, students will complete a fill in the blank exercise. After completing the fill in the blank exercise, the class collectively reviews the Old School Rap lyrics in order to ensure that everyone has the correct fill-ins. Activity 4 (10 min.) Students are challenged to create a song or rap of their own on the topic of AR verb conjugation that incorporates at least one of the chapter verbs: enseñar, escuchar, estudiar, hablar, mirar, sacar. Students have the option of completing the assignment individually, in pairs, or in groups.
