Committee Reports
 Spiritual/Emotional Care, COAD: Marla Potts
o Asked Margaret to mention the emotional needs from the Bird Flu that the Iowa
Concern Hotline has been addressing
 Town of Rembrandt (first town to contract disease) has had three meetings with
good participation.
 Lots of emotional shock and questions about signing up for unemployment
 Many employers have declared “temporary layoffs”, which brings about
different rules for unemployment benefits (don’t have to continually and actively
search for jobs
 Heard that one producer actually hired workers to help clean out the facility
 Demand for chicks in Iowa is low because of fear they may be sick
 Many of the impacted workers speak Spanish which brings about other
challenges
 Rembrandt workers will be getting recalled hopefully in 30-45 days.
 Sioux City Workforce Development has been getting called from workers out of
state, hearing that there are lots of jobs available in Iowa.
 DBHRT team is ready to respond if needed
o Josh had a meeting in NW Iowa that had low attendance (6 workers). This is most likely
due to the temporary layoff classification and many workers who had gone home, out of
state, waiting to be recalled.
