Sweeney and Williams, 2e
A scientific calculator is required for this course. No programmable

available are perfectly fine.
Course description: This is a course designed primarily for students in the fields of business
administration and economics and supplies an introduction to the study of statistics and its many
applications. The course requires a thorough understanding of algebra and Excel.
Prerequisite math courses are Math 101 and 125
Course objectives: To introduce the students, primarily in the fields of business administration
and economics, with a sound conceptual introduction to the field of statistics and its many
applications.
Academic Misconduct: Cheating on exams or quizzes will not be tolerated. If I determine
cheating has occurred, a grade of zero for that assignment will be entered in the grade book.

Grading:
TESTS (2)
200 points each
POP QUIZZES (8 – 15) 20 points each
Each test will have a portion which will be open book and
which will allow you to have on your desk any homework, class
notes and graded quizzes which you feel may be useful. You
may not allow any other person to use these materials. If
another person has made a copy of your homework or quizzes
to use on the test, this is considered cheating and both people
will be penalized. You may not permit another person to use
your calculator during or after the tests or quizzes. If you forget to bring your calculator or your
little brother borrows it or your grandmother thought it was her new cell phone, well, another
valuable lesson has been learned. Pop quizzes are always based on old material and
homework which you have already had an opportunity to ask questions about. Tests are based
on class material and on material in the text.
Grading Scale 90-100% A
80-89.5% B
70-79.5% C
60-69.5% D
Below 60% F
Attendance: As required by university policy, attendance will be monitored at each class
meeting. There will be a sign in sheet on my desk for each class meeting. BE SURE TO SIGN
THE SHEET BY YOUR NAME!!! Excused absences are for university required events and
extreme illness. For a university required event excuse, students must inform me in writing at
least one class period prior to the absence. If I am not available, this may be left with the
department secretary. If there is an extreme illness, students must bring a doctor’s receipt
showing date of the visit and duration the student must remain away from class once he/she
returns to class. Quizzes missed will not be made up in this case but will be excused. Tests will
be re-scheduled. If there is an absence due to a death, an obituary will serve as excuse. If you
have questions, please talk to be. I will try to be as reasonable as possible.
Accommodations for Special Needs: Students needing testing or classroom
accommodations based on a disability are encouraged to discuss those needs with me as soon
as possible so we can promptly and efficiently arrange our resources in a more usable way.
