Charlie Bunnell Paideia Reflection This reflection will be over a capstone presentation I attended in the Religion department. I don’t recall the name of who was presenting, but the topic was “Religion and its Effects on Third World Countries.” The primary case-study of this presentation was Catholicism in Calcutta, India. Some of the examples of religion’s impact on Calcutta were in issues regarding poverty political stability. According to the presentation, Catholicism is most prevalent among the extremely poor people in India. Religion has helped to provide hope for these people and has also been responsible for the limited amount of healthcare they do receive via religious charities. Although India does still have some political instability, the presentation stated that religion has had an effect in helping the situation because of similar impact it has had on poverty. Religion has provided hope to those living in the worst conditions in the country and has helped to draw attention away from any political instability.
