Howard County has a population with the highest sociaoeconomic status as well as one of the most developed educational systems nationally. The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) has taken first place in the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) across all subeject areas from 3rd grade to 12th grade. Furthermore, HCPSS’ Math and English reading scores of MSA are significantly higher than that of other counties in Maryland. Howard County has developed a prestigious reputation in academics, attracting rich educational resources and well-experienced teachers. HCPSS has a history of providing students with excellent curriculum and courses. Program Introduction: This SSAT/SAT summer program consists of 100 classes designed for Chinese middle and high school students who are interested in studying in the U.S. The program is divided into two major parts. The first part will focus on reading, grammar, writing and math. The second part will help students develop specific academic and content vocabularies in the areas of math, physics, chemistry and biology. The two parts combined will significantly enhance the students’ ability and performance in taking the SSAT and SAT. Teachers in this program are veteran educators who have pepared generations of students for these exams. Our teachers will provide comprehensive instructions and practice problem sets to develop students’ academic vocabularies and writing skills. From this program, students will be prepared to succeed in U.S. schools by seamlessly adapting to the new learning and cultural environments. To accomplish our goal of helping students succeed, the program will include, but is not limited to, the following services: 1. All instructors in this program will be veteran teachers from the U.S. public school system. 2. Classes will be given in small sizes to ensure high quality of education. 3. Tailored instructions will be provided according to requirements of SSAT and SAT. 4. American students who performed well on the SAT will be invited to the program as guest speakers to share helpful learning experiences. 5. The program will include the following formats of education: in-class instructions, vocabulary tests/competitions, unit tests and demo tests. 6. All students will be living with American host families to improve their social, cultural, and language skills. 7. Admission officer from private schools will be invited to introduce the admission procedures, requirements and rules. There will be school visits from July 27th to July 31st to both private boarding schools and day schools in the DC area. Parents are welcomed to participate in school visits to gather more information on the schools’ infrastructure, environment and security issues, etc. Fees: $7,000 USD (48,000RMB), including international flights, board and lodging, traffic and course tuition.
