ROAR Cart... The PTA has been working hard to pull the ROAR cart together and although there are many back end details to setting
this up to flow for the entire school year, the look on the children's faces have been priceless. THE GES PTA is so excited to team up
with the Staff to make this happen for our children. More details on how you can get involved will be sent shortly.
Get Ready for some really cool, really fun FAMILY FUN NIGHTS... The PTA is planning such things as Paint Sip and Snack Night,
Lego Night, Minute to Win It Night and soooo many more... Even a glow in the dark Fun Night. We can't wait!!!!
In order to do all of this we still need YOU! A lot of times you might think you have to devote many hours to be a part of the PTA. If

INDIVIDUAL PICTURE DAY - Individual student picture day will be on Monday, October 12th. Order
envelopes will be sent home in Student Friday Folders on October 9th. If you are going to purchase a picture package,
please fill out the order envelope, include payment, and return to school on picture day. An order envelope has to be
filled out for each student. Please remind your child to give his/her order envelope to their homeroom teacher prior
to having their picture taken. Don’t forget Dress to Impress School Spirit Day is on Monday, October 12th !
MARATHON KIDS - We have begun our kick-off ceremonies this week for our Marathon Kids program. All
students in kindergarten through 5th grade are participating in this program in P.E. and while walking/running at
recess. In order for your student to receive his/her free prizes that this program provides we will need to have a
signed blue, green, or white registration form, (extra forms are located on our P.E. Canvas pages under assignments
and in the gym.) Please complete and sign the form for your child(ren) no later than, Wednesday, September

The Howard County Public Schools (HCPSS) will be holding its 9th Annual ADHD Awareness Evening
on October 8, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Centennial High School auditorium. Our guest speaker will be Dr. George
McCloskey a professor in the Psychology Department at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. McCloskey's
presentation "Executive Functions and the Gap between Knowing and Doing" will provide participants with information regarding
executive functions and strategies to improve them. This event is free to the public and there is no registration required. For more

Let’s Go HoCo 5K and Fun Run
It’s not too late to register for the HCPSS 5K and Fun Run on October 11. Participants will include HCPSS staff, students, teachers,

Information File – Data Confidentiality, your child’s name cannot appear in event programs, bulletin
boards, list for recognition purposes or the yearbook.
The form clearly states “If you restrict the release of your child’s name, please note that your child
will be excluded from such publications as the yearbook, a published honor roll, school event
programs, and other publications of this nature.”
If you elect to restrict your child’s name, there are no exceptions to be made for any of the events mentioned above.

Parents and friends, it’s time to sign-up for or re-link your VIC card for the 2015-2015 school year. Go to the Harris Teeter website

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION - Back to school means back to Box Tops. Have you been collecting box
tops throughout the summer? Well now is the time to start sending in all those box tops. A few reminders,

Collision Avoidance Training classes beginning Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21, and Dec. 12.
The C.A.T. program is an advance defensive driving and vehicle control program for licensed teenage driver’s ages 16-20
years old. The one-day program (8.5 hours) is designed to provide young drivers with the knowledge and understanding
of vehicle dynamics. The course and classroom are instructed by Police Officers. The cost to each student is $ 95.00. Any

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center
Greenbelt will be hosting a free open house event on Sat., Sept. 26. This will be our first open house since 2011. The
event is an opportunity for the pubic to get up close and learn more about NASA’s work. Virtually all of Goddard’s
biggest projects will have some kind of display, demonstration or tour. One of its primary objectives is to get the next
generation of scientists and engineers exposed to possible careers in engineering and space exploration. All guests will

Champions Against Cancer
Golf Classic, Mon., Oct. 19,. Champions Against Cancer Inc. is a Howard County based charity established to provide
financial support and resources to the children and families of those effected with Cancer in Howard county. This first
annual golf classic at Hobbit's Glen Golf Club will tee off at 10 a.m., and will raise funds to offer scholarships to seniors

System Recruiting Sixth Grade Guardians for Chapters-of-Our-Lives Time Capsule, Sat., Oct. 24, Miller Branch, 10 a.m.2 p.m. Festivities begin with an opening ceremony unveiling the HCLS Chapters-of-Our-Lives Time Capsule. Filled with
items representative of HCLS and the year 2015, this Time Capsule is a collection of three containers, all part of a 75-year
plan.
To help champion this ambitious undertaking, HCLS is looking for 75 sixth grade students who will pledge to be
Guardians of the first chapter of HCLS’ legacy for the next 25 years.
