TRANSFER CREDIT POLICY – Full-Time MBA PROGRAM
Southern Methodist University
Cox School of Business
While the school is not obligated to accept any transfer credit, in certain cases a maximum of eight (8)
credit hours may be transferred at entrance only thereby reducing the number of Cox credit hours
required for the degree.
1.
For students admitted to the MBA Program, the Cox School of Business may accept as transfer
credit at entrance only a maximum of eight credit hours of graduate-level business courses
completed at other accredited universities within three years prior to entry date as long as the
course(s) has(have) not been credited toward a previous degree. The course(s) must be
compatible to the SMU MBA degree philosophy.
The appropriate department chairperson approves all graduate-level business courses completed at
other universities for transfer to SMU. Transfer hours will be limited to courses taken at institutions
accredited by the AACSB - The International Association for Management Education. Exams may
be required in some subject areas in order to qualify for transfer credit.
2.
Any course accepted for transfer credit must have been completed with a grade of "B" or better.
3.
No JD/MBA or MA/MBA candidate may transfer credit..
4.
The number of transfer credit hours will be limited to eight (8) credit hours of course work. The
credit hour value of the transfer work will be determined by the Cox faculty review. The minimum
number of hours to be completed in the Cox School at SMU will be 53 hours during enrollment in
the MBA program.
Requests for transfer hour credit will be considered and processed only after the admission deposit has
been received in the Graduate Office. A separate request for each course should be documented on a
petition form and must be accompanied by:
