LESSON PLAN 5 – YASSAMAN MASTOORI Class level Classroom Intermediate Room 3 Progress expectation Students should be able to make formal and informal requests in public places such as a bar Vocabulary related to things that can be done at a bar and grammar related to making formal versus informal requests At the bar Enable the students to make a formal or informal request at a bar according to the situation Students should recognize when it’s appropriate to make formal requests and when it’s appropriate to make informal requests in a public place such as a bar I assume that the students know how to make indicative sentences and questions in simple present. I also assume that they know some basic vocabulary related to purchasing. Board, handouts, and flash cards Students will be asked to make formal or informal request in an imaginary bar in a group work. This will give me the opportunity to observe how proficient they have become in making formal and informal requests. The class went well till the vocabulary practice. The grammar presentation took longer that it was planned which took 3 minutes from the produce activity and no time for the wrap up. I guess that the reason was that I had chosen material which could not be covered in 10 minutes. Also, since there are many ways to make a formal request, some students were asking about other ways to make a request. If I could repeat this class, I would only cover two types of request . For example, “Can I have…., please?” and “Could I have…., please?” This probably would lead to better understanding and less confusion.
