7th Grade Exploratory Curriculum Guide TEXTBOOK: Discovering French-Bleu This curriculum guide provides an overview of the content of the 7/8th grade French program. The course consists of ~70 class periods. It is divided into monthly themes. All dates and course content are tentative. Some activities and projects may have to be omitted or rescheduled due to special events scheduled during the World language time slot and/or the students’ pace of the particular section. August/September/October- Salutations, Geography and Culture Dialogue: Students will explore the job opportunities available to those who speak a second language. Students will greet people, and use common courtesy expressions. Students will ask what another person’s name is. Students will ask where someone is from/ and tell where they live. Students will ask what nationality someone is, and be able to respond to the question appropriately. Students will learn to ask about the time and to answer appropriately. Students will review the numbers 1-60. Grammar: Students will identify singular, subject pronouns. Students will identify gender of nouns. Reading/Writing: Students will read and perform dialogues incorporating the vocabulary and grammar under study. Cultural Awareness: Students will locate the French-speaking (Francophone) countries on the world map. Students will learn about the currency of France and the European Union. November/December/January-Descriptions: Friends and family Dialogue: Students will be able to identify and give information about family members. Students will learn vocabulary pertaining to the family. Students will be able to describe themselves and friends. Students will ask how old someone is, and tell how old they are. Students will learn to give the date and day of the week. Students will review the numbers 60-1000. Grammar: Students will learn to conjugate “être-to be” in the present indicative. Students will recognize when to make a liaison /elision. Students will learn the appropriate definite and indefinite articles. Students will be able to identify the correct definite and indefinite article for each noun in the new vocabulary. Students will learn to use a French/English dictionary - Explanation of noun, verb, adjective, adverb, infinitive. Reading and Writing: Students will translate short dialogues. Students will write descriptions of famous people, classmates, + self. page 2 February/March - Food Dialogue: Students will learn vocabulary pertaining to food. Students will learn to order food/ beverage in a restaurant/café. Students will learn to ask about prices and pay the bill. Students will learn to ask friends to give or lend something. Students will identify French money. (Euro) Grammar: Students will learn and use the verb “avoir-to have.” Students will identify the gender, definite and indefinite article of new vocabulary. Students will recognize accent marks of pronunciation and/or stress. Reading and Writing: Students will write a short skit using vocabulary learned to date. April/May/June - Weather Dialogue: Students will learn to talk about the weather. Students will be able to name the seasons. Grammar: Students will learn to conjugate regular “er” verbs in the present tense. Students will learn and use the verb “faire-to do, to make.” Reading and Writing: Students will write a weather report. Students will create a folder of vocabulary and concepts to
