Hypothetical Instructional Context

Ivy Tech College offers a series of online options for faculty members to conduct online
instruction or to utilize as an online supplement for traditional instruction.
Statement of the performance problem:

The Ivy Tech’s Michigan City campus is not adequately preparing faculty to utilize the
available elearning resources as a supplement to traditional instruction as provided by Ivy
Tech College statewide.
Performance problem indicators:
Multiple supporting performance indicators have been identified.
Item 1: Currently no adjunct or full time faculty at the Michigan City campus utilizes
Blackboard (or any online alternative such as the Faculty web, or the Internet)
to support traditional course instruction.
Indication: Instructors do not successfully utilize or integrate available technology
resources in the design and delivery of classroom based instruction.
Item 2: Students comment that it would be helpful to have web location where class
information was made available.
Indication: Students may not be receiving the support needed to maximize learning
opportunities outside the classroom (e.g. homework exercises).
Item 3: Adjunct faculty members comment that they would like to make course
information available and readily accessible to all students from any machine
with internet access.
Indication: Instructors are not able to devote the optimum amount of schedule course
time and student homework time to academic learning.
Item 4: Students comment that it is very difficult to meet with adjunct faculty outside of
scheduled class time.
