An open-access, two-year technical college, Ivy Tech offers courses, degree programs, training leading to certifications and continuing education. The College also provides customized training opportunities for businesses and industries. Along with the Valparaiso Campus, the Michigan City Campus (LaPorte County) serves the eastern most area of Ivy Tech State College Northwest’s region. It is the newest campus added to the Northwest Region. Major cities in its district are Michigan City and LaPorte and the smaller surrounding towns and communities to the south and east. The campus provides the LaPorte County area with health care, business administration, culinary and technology programs. Statement of the performance problem: The Ivy Tech’s Michigan City campus is not adequately preparing faculty to utilize the available elearning resources as a supplement to traditional instruction as provided by Ivy Tech College statewide. Performance problem indicators: Multiple supporting performance indicators have been identified. Item 1: Currently no adjunct or full time faculty at the Michigan City campus utilizes Blackboard (or any online alternative such as the Faculty web, or the Internet) to support traditional course instruction. Indication: Instructors do not successfully utilize or integrate available technology resources in the design and delivery of classroom based instruction. Item 2: Students comment that it would be helpful to have web location where class information was made available. Indication: Students may not be receiving the support needed to maximize learning opportunities outside the classroom (e.g. homework exercises). Item 3: Adjunct faculty members comment that they would like to make course information available and readily accessible to all students from any machine with internet access. Indication: Instructors are not able to devote the optimum amount of schedule course time and student homework time to academic learning.
