AP Calculus BC Mr. Simpson 2010 – 2011 Purpose: We will learn the principles of differential and integral calculus and apply them to real world situations. The complete curriculum set forth in the AP Calculus BC outline will be taught. Students who successfully pass the AP test may receive credit for up to two semesters of college work. PLAN: Trimester 1 – Chapters 1 – 6 Trimester 2 – Chapters 7 – 10 Trimester 3 – Review assignments and practice tests. AP TEST is usually the first week of May. After AP TEST weeks -- PROJECT Text: Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic 3rd Edition Review chapters 1 – 3 Complete chapters 4 – 10 Review all AP Material through practice tests and worksheets Tests: There will be a 100 point test at the end of each chapter. Tests can be retaken, however, it must be done by the following Friday in the A.M. You can earn up to an 80 after the retake. Quizzes: There will be one or more quizzes each chapter. Each quiz will be worth between 10 and 40 points. Homework: There will be an assignment every day. Homework will be checked at my discretion. Homework checks will be 5 to 10 point assignments. Students who do not do the assignments will not pass the AP test and may have to do extra wind sprints after school. Extra Credit: Extra credit points may be earned through Michigan Math League participation tests after school. MML – 6 questions, one pt. per correct answer. Dates will be posted. Grading: Your percentage will be calculated on a total points basis. Class grades will be posted regularly. A.P. Test: We will cover and review, thoroughly, all of the material you can expect to see on the exam. Provided you make a strong day-to-day effort all year, you will find yourself excellently prepared. Many students suffer severe time problems in the spring. If you have more than two AP classes, you would be well advised to limit your extra-curricular activities to a single choice. That means, a part time job OR a sport OR youth group OR a dating relationship OR a musical group.
