TEXT: Calculus (Fourth Edition) AUTHORS: Deborah Hughes-Hallett, Andrew M. Gleason, William G. McCallum, et al. The objectives of this course are for you to learn the fundamental ideas of calculus, and to learn and use the techniques that embody these ideas, to solve problems in science and engineering. To pass this course, you should expect to do 1-2 hours of homework for each hour that you spend in the classroom. This course will cover chapters 7 through 10, and parts of chapters 11 if time permits. Attendance is required. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class session. If you miss more than 5 class sessions, you will not pass this course. Grading: There will be an exam at the end of each chapter. The lowest exam score will be dropped. There are no make-ups for any exam. Your average on these exams will count for 60% of your grade. There will be a common, cumulative Final Exam worth 200 points. The Final will count for 20% of your grade. A cumulative homework score, worth 20% of your grade, will be computed by dividing the sum total of all your homework scores by the sum total possible on all the homework: Sum Total of All Your Homework Scores cumulative homework score = Sum Total Possible Late homework will not be accepted. Your class average will be computed from the chapter quizzes, homework, and final as described above. Your grade will be determined from your class average as follows. Grades will not be curved.
