Yahoo! acquired VivaSmart in June 2000, and uses the VivaSmart technology as the core of the Yahoo! shopping service. Amr served as Vice President of Engineering, and led a team that used Hadoop extensively for data analysis and business intelligence across the Yahoo! online services. Amr holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, and a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Dr. Vijay K. Narayanan Yahoo! Labs Silicon Valley Vijay K. Narayanan is currently working on problems related to computational advertising in the Advertising Sciences group in Yahoo Labs. He received a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and a Ph.D in Astronomy from The Ohio State University, and was a Sloan Digital Sky Survey Research Fellow in Astrophysics in Princeton University. He has authored about 55 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of theoretical and observational astrophysics and in large scale query classification, and about a dozen conference publications.
