Theory and key concepts in gender, sex, and health research: a research training session

Participants will expand their understanding of
1. The differences between sex and gender, while taking into account the complexities of each
category (Dr. Joy Johnson);
2. How paradigms inform definitions and designs in gender, sex, and health research (Dr.Blye
Frank);
3. The concept of intersectionality, and how other markers of social difference intersect with
gender and sex (Dr. Olena Hankivsky); and
4. How gender and sex can be integrated in health research, as well as best practices and
emerging innovations in the field (Dr. Gillian Einstein).

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
A. ONLINE WITH WEBEX
Overview
To participate in the web-broadcast of this session, you will need a computer with an internet
connection and a telephone. Connecting to WebEx is a two step process. First, you must login to
the WebEx site online. Then, you will use your telephone to connect to the audio portion either
by providing a phone number where the WebEx system can call you back or by dialling into a
teleconference. You will be able to view the presentation slides on your screen and hear the
audio through your telephone. Please note that the audio portion will be one-way only; that is,
you will be able to hear the session presenters, but they will not be able to hear you. Participants
are asked to please submit their questions via the online chat feature. Questions will then be
dictated to the presenters.

2. Enter the required information (first name, last name, email)
3. A dialogue box will prompt you to enter your telephone number. Entering your telephone
number allows the WebEx system to call you back at that number and connects you to the audio
portion. **Please note: if you have an extension in your phone number, the call-back feature will
not work. Please proceed to step #4 to dial in to the audio portion. You may also choose the dial
in option if this is what you prefer.
